What worked for you to start labour

So I know baby will come when ready, but I’m due on Wednesday and I feel huge and fed up and this lockdown isn’t helping as I’m quite literally sat here waiting for labour to begin. So just wondering if anyone can tell me their stories of how labour started for them?
It’s my second baby but induced with my first so natural labour is new.

Following, as want to see people's comments too!
I'm behind you at 37 weeks, but still feeling like a couch potato and restless xx

emsyj37 · 23/01/2021 15:26

Vigorous sex. From behind, lying down as that was the most comfortable. Scientifically proven method, if you can face it.

rubyslippers · 23/01/2021 15:27

I had a sweep - went in Labour 3 hours later
6 hours after that I was holding DD

FelicityBob · 23/01/2021 15:30

Sweep followed by sex

PatMustardsBigTool · 23/01/2021 15:57

Lots of nipple stimulation. Sweep. Sex. Not in any particular order. Good luck, OP, hope baby comes soon.

Oneandabean · 23/01/2021 16:08

Tried sex a few times but everything is so over sensitive it’s impossible to do vigorously. Similar to the nipple stimulation, I tried it but I hate them touched at the best of times, now it’s just beyond awful. I’m booked in for a sweep at 41 weeks, they won’t do one earlier where I am, really hoping baby will be here by then.

Standing on a wasp. I don't recommend it!! On a serious note I don't believe it was the wasp, but it feels good to blame the stabby little bugger.....

Nothing works. All the people who say "this worked for me" only know that Labour started after they had sex, are curry/pineapple etc, drove down a bumpy road etc.

With my first I really wish I hadn't bothered. It was exhausting!

MaverickDanger · 23/01/2021 16:20

Absolutely nothing. Was induced & gave birth at 42 weeks.

Only bother doing all the old wives’ tales if you can be bothered.

happytoday73 · 23/01/2021 16:24

Sex.. However you can in your condition
Don't bother with pineapple.. Burnt top off my tongue and nothing...

TheScurrilousFunge · 23/01/2021 16:26

In my experience? Be convinced that your baby won't show up for at least another two weeks. I think they like to surprise us Grin

NavyBerry · 23/01/2021 16:40

Walking up an down the stairs. I wa already at hospital waiting to be induced next morning. This saved me

Thechase · 23/01/2021 17:09

With my 2nd I started to remember the pain with my first. Then I panicked i willed her to stay in and just give me time to enjoy the pregnancy. No she came 36 hours later a week early and with my 3rd I never had these thoughts againGrin

SanFranBear · 23/01/2021 17:15

Probably completely circumstantial but with both my DC, labour came on after a night of video gaming (DD after the first Ghirahim battle in Zelda, Skyward Sword and DS after a particularly annoying level of Super Paper Mario). I got very into it and so perhaps my frustration as I died about 25 times did it..

Are you a gamer, OP? Could be worth a shot Wink

PlinkPlink · 23/01/2021 17:17

I got on with keeping the house tidy.

Cleaning windows
Dusting
Tidying
Hoovering

Lots of things that involved movement 😂 not straining. Just keeping busy.

Fuckityfucksake · 23/01/2021 17:26

Sex!
Not sure where the vigorous part is coming from?
It's the semen you need and for it to stay in contact with your cervix. Semen contains prostaglandins that can promote softening of the cervix and contractions. Similar to the vaginal pessary used to induce late babies.

swiftt8919 · 23/01/2021 17:28

Absolutely nothing! Baby came when she was ready.

TheGracefulwhale · 23/01/2021 17:29

I had a massive day of nesting, batch cooked a cottage pie for freezing, cleaned and tidied everywhere, just for something to do really. In the process, I danced around the kitchen thinking I was on the West end... Contraction started a few hours later. I was onky 37 weeks! Dd is now a week old!

The night before I did run clary sage on my bump diluted with almond oil but it didn't seem to do anything other than give me a headache

mdh2020 · 23/01/2021 17:38

Curry, Chinese food and laughing.

MissBPotter · 23/01/2021 17:41

A long walk. But I was 12 days over so it might have happened anyway. Someone told me walking up stairs helped them...

heathergem · 23/01/2021 17:51

Sweep then a spicy Nando's. 6 hours later, voila!

loubieloo4 · 23/01/2021 17:53

A midwife friend of mine says nipple stimulation works best, if you have a pump might be easier 😁 good luck

Chimeraforce · 23/01/2021 18:03

Sex. Long walks didn't work neither did swamp water raspberry leaf tea.

Chelyanne · 23/01/2021 18:14

Bugger all.

Once it's started with our 3rd, SEX! gave it a big push along lol
With our 2nd it was stop start, was 1cm dilated at my last check up and took him 6 days and a push of them breaking waters to get him out.

KB13 · 23/01/2021 18:35

My midwife threatened to book me in for a sweep when I was 40+1, I went into labour that night and baby was born at 40+2. This time I’m hoping he stays in until lockdown is nearly over, currently 34+3. I’m already homeschooling 2 kids, will be a nightmare chucking a newborn in the mix 😅
