Bleeding, 8 weeks - handhold

Keyboard91 · 23/01/2021 06:35

I’m 8 weeks today my LMP. Went to pee at 5 as DS had woken and I was bleeding. It was pink, and looked like it was mixed with discharge (if you know what I mean).

This is my 4th pregnancy. I have one living child. So very anxious.

Local EPAU opens at 9 (i think, doesn’t specify it’s not open weekends) so going to call them.

Feeling very emotional. Can bleeding at 8 weeks ever turn out okay?

I've had it turn out both ways at 8 weeks, please don't think all is lost.

I assume EPAU will see you because of your previous history?

Sending you a handhold having been there several times myself. Am currently cuddling the newborn who gave me a scare at 8 weeks though.

fib11235 · 23/01/2021 06:55

Yes it can. I bled at 6 & 8 weeks, now at 15 weeks. Is it bleeding on its own or bleeding with pain/cramps. Speak to EPU when they open, may need to get referred by GP, hopefully they’ll get you an internal scan. Plenty of people on here with both and bad tales to tell so there’s always hope. Keeping fingers crossed for you 💐

Keyboard91 · 23/01/2021 07:05

Thank you @loveacupoftea18 and @fib11235

It has turned brown and reduced a lot compared to earlier. I have some period/back pain but not sure whether it’s because I’m now hyper sensitive to everything.

The local EPAU accepts referrals from women so I’m hoping they will be able to help. I’m assuming that due to it being the weekend and covid that it’ll unlikely be until Monday. No private scan places within 20 miles have spaces for today :(

I once had a pretty big bright red bleed at 16 weeks, i got out of bed and it ran down my legs. Baby was fine, i got put on labour ward which was scary. But i was checked over, baby had heartbeat, bleeding stopped and we were both fine.

relaxtakeiteasyeatcheese · 23/01/2021 07:19

Good luck op. It can be very normal to bleed in early pregnancy.

netstaller · 23/01/2021 07:26

With my first DC I had spotting at around 5 weeks, with my second at 14 weeks I woke up in bed covered in bright red blood, and continued to heavily bleed for 24 hours. Both children were born healthy at full term. The key with both is that I had no cramping, both were healthy pregnancies (another issue that I didn't realise caused the heavy bleed).

Snally82 · 23/01/2021 07:50

I had pink at 8 weeks too, it was my body sort of acting like it should be my period time. All was fine but get checked out.

JhsLs · 23/01/2021 08:31

I had this this week. Went to EPU for a scan and they told me I have two subchironic haematomas, which are like small areas of bleeding/bruising in the uterus. They shouldn’t affect the pregnancy and are nothing to worry about.

India999 · 23/01/2021 08:50

I bled at 8 weeks. All ok now. Best of luck with everything XX

Thank you for all the messages.

EPAC is only open Monday to Friday 😭

If you can't get seen until monday op then be kind to yourself this weekend and rest up. I would try not to worry unless you have bad cramping Flowers

unicornpower · 23/01/2021 09:16

Sending you love! Honestly it seems quite common (l know that wont make you worry less) are there any other private scan companies you could get too? Even if further away x

LookingAtTheFlowers · 23/01/2021 09:25

Hi Keyboard,
I just wanted to share my experience with you.. I had exactly the same last week, completely panicked and phoned my dr who said I needed to speak to the EPU. It took me over 150 calls to get through to someone at the EPU. In the meantime I'd also called 111 to see if they could refer me to an EPU elsewhere, and an out of hours number too for the hospital. 111 said I had done the right thing, but they weren't too concerned because the bleeding wasn't red and I wasn't passing clots or anything significant.
Once I finally got through to the EPU, the really lovely lady I spoke to ran through some triage questions, asked what I had been upto, any pain etc. She also asked whether I'd had sex within the last 4 days. I had, two days previously. She said it was most likely a bit of old blood from my cervix getting knocked when having sex. She told me it was a good sign it was brown and not red. She told me to put my feet up and rest, and put a pad in my underwear to monitor what I passed. She said the pads would be needed if things got any worse, so to keep them. However, my bleeding didn't get any worse. It remained brown, and I did have it for a couple of days.
I read loads and loads online and found that it is really common.

I just wanted to share this with you because I was so worried and I know you can't get anywhere over the weekend. Monitor it and monitor how you feel and if you have any cramps and stomach pains etc.

Sending you hugs and I really hope everything turns out okay for you xxxxx

Hi OP. I had pink discharge (blood mixed with discharge) on and off between 6-8 weeks. I have had a loss before so i assumed it was the end. However the baby was fine at my early scan.

I am now 35 weeks and all is well, however interestingly I have slightly low PAPP-A hormone which can sometimes lead to your placenta not functioning as well. When I read up on it it turns out this can cause early spotting at around the time when the placenta takes over supplying the foetus. It may be something similar with you. I have been taking baby aspirin and my baby seems unaffected. Good luck OP x

Keyboard91 · 23/01/2021 09:46

Update: I couldn’t find how to contact the other EPU in my area (bigger) so called 111. They have said I will get a call back within 2 hours and hoping they can refer me to other EPU.

There is a private scan available at 8:30 PM tomorrow which is a 45 minute drive. But I would have to attend alone due to childcare and I’m not sure about driving home after if it isn’t good news.

I really appreciate all the positive comments.

Haven’t had sex, well, this year! So know it’s not that. It has slowed down so hoping that’s a positive but then I was told things were probably okay with my first loss so I think I’m automatically expecting the worst

That's a positive update. Wishing you luck OP x

Drowninginwashing · 23/01/2021 10:20

Would it be your partner providing care for your older DC during your scan tomorrow? Maybe they would come with you ij the car and then go to a local park or something whilst you are scanned x

Keyboard91 · 23/01/2021 11:35

GP called and said to attend A&E. I am happy it’s not an ectopic (very little/if any pain) and I’m not bleeding horrifically so I feel that was the wrong advise. A&E are under enough pressure I am sure. I also know I would be a lower priority than a lot of those attending (rightly so) so would be there a while and no guarantee of a scan either which is what I need. Not to mention covid risk. No mention of EPU referral.

Have managed to get a private scan tonight. My sister has offered to stay at my house (baby should hopefully sleep through, but obs can’t leave him alone and don’t really want to wake him to put him in the car) so my partner can drive us.

Not ideal, but at least I can find out either way.

@Keyboard91 bleeding in early pregnancy is such a worry, I hope all is ok x

Sitchervice · 23/01/2021 22:39

@Keyboard91 I had bleeding and spotting through my first trimester. I still bleed now and I'm 19 weeks.

I hope everything is ok

FruitLoopzz · 23/01/2021 22:54

@Keyboard91 hope u are ok and everything was fine x

Keyboard91 · 24/01/2021 08:41

Everything was absolutely perfect. Measuring 2 days ahead, strong heart beat, moving around well. Couldn’t see a reason for the bleeding.

Thank you for all the support 🥰
