20 weeks - no movement yet

I'm 20 weeks today with our second and not felt any movement yet!

I really can't remember when I did with my first but I'm sure I had by now.

Have a private scan booked for the weekend (as DH can't come to come to the NHS one Monday) and we had some previous problems with our 1st dc's scan so didn't want to go alone.

Anyone else not felt a lot until after 20 weeks? I'm driving myself mad!

Should add heard heartbeat at 16 weeks and all was fine.

Do you know where your placenta is ?

If it’s anterior it’s not abnormal at all for first movements to be delayed. It should be on your 12w scan report. It will either say anterior or posterior

BettyAndVeronica · 21/01/2021 19:42

If you are worrying, is there anywhere you could get a heartbeat check tomorrow?

My GP did one for me, to save me going to the hospital when I was worried about movement. It was v quick two mins in and out.

SamoyedFan123 · 21/01/2021 20:02

I didn't feel anything until 21 and a half weeks with my twins!

yoigh · 21/01/2021 20:07

I'm 19 weeks with my second and can't feel movement, with my first it was 24 weeks!

JenIsAGem · 21/01/2021 20:11

I didn't feel anything until around 22 weeks Smile

SEE123 · 21/01/2021 20:12

I'm a little "large" and pretty sure I didn't feel much until 22+ weeks! Was also driving myself potty. Try not to worry OP x

Bazinga1988 · 21/01/2021 22:29

Thanks all. Your responses are reassuring!

I have had a look at my notes and I cannot see it mentioning where my placenta is so I might drop my mid wife a message to see if she can see anything on her system.

Tomorrow is going to feelnlike the longest day before Saturday I'm sure. Luckily I am working so hopefully it will go quickly.

This worries me too. Second pregnancy, 19 weeks and no movement so far - also heard heartbeat at 16 weeks. Felt movement by 16 weeks with first.

Can't see anything about placenta position on 12 week scan report and sonographer didn't mention anything.

AllegedlyChaos · 21/01/2021 22:42

Very normal, usually happens shortly.

SamoyedFan123 · 21/01/2021 22:51

I don't think they would normally take note of the placenta position until 20 week scan iirc?

WalkingMeAway · 21/01/2021 23:21

@SamoyedFan123 mine was on my 12w scan report for this pregnancy and my second.

It’s at 20w scan they check for low lying placenta

Can’t remember with my first as too long ago 😂 but I know I was verbally told anterior at some point.

WalkingMeAway · 21/01/2021 23:23

@Bazinga1988 no harm giving your MW a call. I’m sure all is fine but it’s not a nice feeling to worry.

I didn’t feel my first until 23w with an anterior placenta x

lilly02 · 22/01/2021 06:04

I have just started feeling movements and I'm 23 weeks x

Oneandabean · 22/01/2021 06:44

They didn’t check position of placenta until 20w with me so it may be that stopping the movements being felt. You may not feel movements until 24 weeks depending on position of baby

CheeseandWine91 · 22/01/2021 11:49

I didn't feel bubs move until 21/22 weeks and I have anterior placenta. My midwife said its completely normal and one mum she sees didn't feel movement until 27 weeks!

SEE123 · 22/01/2021 21:09

Good luck tomorrow OP!

Bazinga1988 · 23/01/2021 09:41

@SEE123 thank you. Woke up at 2am worrying so today is going to feel like a long day!

Hi @Bazinga1988 I'm just wondering how you got on? Did you manage to find the position of your placenta?

Bazinga1988 · 25/01/2021 18:42

Hi all, an update from me.

Had a private scan Saturday and all looked good. Placenta is at the front so that is why I'm not feeling much at the moment!

Nhs 20 week scan was today. All measurements are good, little one didn't stop wriggling and all looks healthy. Confirmed the placenta is at the front.

Very happy and relieved now!

Thanks for all the support! Xx

I had an anterior placenta with my first and the midwives were so good at checking things over when I thought I hadn't felt him in a while. One thing they suggested was to lay on my left side and drink a really cold glass of water.

Leala20 · 25/01/2021 19:00

@Bazinga1988 great news! I posted on a similar post yesterday as I am 17 weeks, first pregnancy and cannot feel anything. A few bubbles I felt on my lower right hand side and only with my hand touching I think maybe my stomach noise and not the baby. I know it’s still early but this doesn’t help me worry. I checked my 12w scan notes and it said anterior placenta but was told it could still move. I will wait 2 more weeks till my 20w scan and hope I hear/see the same news as you.
