Anyone on progesterone?

I've recently seen a consultant as my luteal phases were measuring short - just for the past two or three months. Due to some other factors he decided to test me for low progesterone next cycle and prescribed me progesterone pessaries (Cyclogest) to take from next ovulation.

Delighted to find out this week I'm actually pregnant! But my question is whether I should start the pessaries now? His secretary said I should but I can't help but worry whether it is safe, having not actually tested for low progesterone? Is too much progesterone a risk?

I had a miscarriage in September which I will never know if was due to low progesterone so I'm so scared of it happening again.

Thanks x

I was prescribed cyclogest after recurrent MC. I think it was 400mg twice a day. I took it from when I found out I was pregnant at 4wks to 16wks as in PRISM trial - although many Drs will tell you to stop earlier than that as placenta takes over. My Dr at the EPU told me that they don't know fully if it works but there is no risk to mother or baby and she'd seen it work for other women so was happy to prescribe. I'm now 29 wks. I know several other ladies who've had successful PG with progesterone after losses as well.

I was diagnosed with low progesterone levels a few years ago when TTC. After 1 MC my DR prescribed progesterone supplement but I was reluctant to take it, as my first MC was a missed one and I was extremely worried that keeping progesterone levels high might lead to another MMC (i.e. not bleeding but baby not growing either). I had another MC, although not MMC. Third time pregnant, I was first on an oral progesterone supplement, afterwards changed to vaginal cyclogest till week 16. I'm now 34 weeks.
It your decision OP, whatever you decide fingers crossed for you and your little one.

Hi op, you should be fine taking it. I’ve had fertility treatment and they prescribe it from the day of ‘conception’ so a week to two weeks before you know you are pregnant. If you get a negative test you stop but if you have a positive you usually continue it to 10-12 weeks xx

Sorry just seen the posts above saying until 16 weeks. I don’t have personal experience so can’t comment - I’m only 11 weeks still :)

Take it twice a day from your BFP until week 16 x
