Anyone given birth at Pembury during COVID?

Hi all,

Just wanting experiences of people that have given birth at Pembury during COVID. I'm hoping DH can stay as we may be there more than just one night and my understanding is if he leaves then he can't come back in. Are partners allowed to leave the room/ward to get food from within the hospital? If not, what are the facilities like e.g. do the post natal rooms have little fridges or microwaves? (I know I'm being hopeful)

I've been trying to think of foods that don't need to be reheated or refrigerated but realised that may not be the necessary if they've got facilities.

Thanks all!

A friend has; her partner was allowed out to the car park but no further. This was back in September 2020 though, so during the pandemic but not during lockdown. The Costa is usually open for take away. I doubt there are any extras like fridges or microwaves though.

I’ve given birth at Pembury twice, but not during COVID.

There was no fridge/microwave in the rooms. You will be fed, but DH will probably need to fend for himself! Pretty sure the Costa on the ground floor does hot paninis etc. I would have thought he can just make for the short time he is there.

There is a bed for you and a chair next to the bed which might be uncomfortable for him...

Thank you both. Hopefully he will be allowed to go to Costa but I'll get him to pack easy bites to eat just incase. We're planning on bringing a single inflatable bed so hopefully he won't be living in that chair too long 😅

There is a room on the ward with a kettle, fridge microwave etc in. Pre covid you get food but DH will need to get takeaway from Costa or bring something before you get there

I was born there!
I can't help as it was a long time ago and I don't remember a thing. Grin

I gave birth at Pembury in February. My husband was allowed with me the whole time, including triage. We actually didn't make it to the ward as everything went smoothly and we were discharged directly from the labour ward later that day.

My husband was allowed to leave and go to Costa and also to go and get stuff from our car. He was also provided with toast after the baby was born Smile He had to wear a mask the whole time.. I accidentally packed him a child size one, so he wasn't very comfortable but couldn't exactly complain!

I also gave birth to my daughter at Pembury pre-COVID and we spent a night in one of the private postnatal rooms. You have your own bathroom but no fridge, etc. If the shared kitchen is not accessible, I think the nurses would be able to keep things in the fridge and heat things for you perhaps. (At least that is what they offered to do when I was on the children's ward with my son in another hospital last week).

Good luck! I had really great experiences at Pembury both times!
