Sciatica - any tips?

I've been hobbling around for last 3 days (currently 24wks pg), and have lower back pain and a slightly dead leg. From the books I've read, this sounds like sciatica. Anyone else had this and if so, did you find anything to relieve it?

Sorry,

If you want a soultion to this go to a chiropractor

Alternatively stretch the leg as best you can, hot baths, gentle walking. Don't sit still for too long.

Hope that helps.

ooh i had this when i was 8m pg. I was doing too much - tidying - and it bought on the sciatica. My Midwife said for me to go swimming, but on the same night i just relaxed and didnt do anything AT ALL......i never had sciatica again throughout my pg.

Now my DD is 3...the sciatica comes back now and again. i just relax.

I had it on dd2 as she was lying right on the nerve and one night dd1 came into thebed, climbed on top of me, tried to get comfy, couldnt, large bump, and kneed my belly which bloody hurt but she shifted dd2 off nasty nerve and bobs your uncle and fannys your aunt!!!!!

I'm going to go swimming then do nothing - hooray - what excellent advice. If that doesn't work I'll get a small child round to duff me up.

Pmsl!!!!

Enjoy the swim, as bad as you feel imagine my life at the mo with a dh who has it!!

Oh I've got the violins out just thinking about it - sympathise as my dh has serious man flu - he's ordered a blood pressure machine and's taken to wandering around the house in his pjs muttering 'i'm going to die'. think it's the stress of imminent parenthood.

pmsl, watling. anything to get rid of the pain, huh?

I suffered from sciatica since I was a teenager , and the Alexander Technique did wonders for me.
When I was pregnant I started to have sciatica pains at around week 20, and I went back to Alexander lessons (one lesson every two weeks was enough for me). The result was not a twinge of any back pain for the rest of the pregnancy.
I also had one of those big balls you can rest on, and I liked it a lot.
