Hi ladies,
After a MMC in September 2019, I'm so grateful to say that I'm 16 weeks plus with twins who are due on 3 July 2021. I guess they'll actually arrive by mid-June (I hope). I'm looking for any other mums of twins / multiples to share the experience with - double the trouble, double the fun! 🤩

Congratulations.
Not sure if they are still going but there used to be a National group called TAMBA Twins and Multiple Birth Association so check in your area. We set up a crèche for them when I was at college. People found it useful for choosing a pram, feeding, coping etc.
Wishing you a trouble free pregnancy and birth.💐

Chelyanne · 21/01/2021 09:44

Congratulations
You can join the tein Trust which offers discounts but I think there are fees. They'll get you as close to 38 weeks but not let you go much longer as the placenta is not as efficient after that point, ours were born bang on 38wk. You'll get big pretty fast. Good luck.

We have fraternal twin girls who are almost 6 now. Lots of people will tell you they are hard work but I disagree with that, time consuming and tiring at 1st as it takes a while to set a routine where they feed together. Pregnancy can be very hard. I was absolutely huge with ours, they were 17lb combined at birth. Hip/back pain, numbness and a lot of lower body swelling was the norm. I had to sleep sat up toward the end but I was still doing the school runs with our 3 older ones, shopping and housework right up until the day before birth. I had a low lying placenta with the lower of the two which moved enough by 32 weeks but then she turned breech after that so I ended up with an elective cesarean. The birth wasn't bad, I was up walking within 12 hours of surgery and felt pretty good after 24 hours. I got to go home the day after birth too, it did take a lot of nagging though. The fact we already had routines with the older ones meant the girls slot in to life pretty easily. Twins are extra special, they snuggle up together which is adorable. We kept them both in the same cotbed for as long as possible.
Currently 9+ weeks pregnant, find out if singleton or twins in a few weeks.

@Dinky06 I'm currently pregnant with twins too! I am 23+4 with DCDA twins.

What type of twins are you pregnant with?

I am the same as you, I had a MMC and then fell pregnant with twins! It's lovely but I feel enormous already, all my friends and family of single babies have said I'm bigger than they were at 7 months 🤣

Toddlerandtwinstobe · 21/01/2021 13:26

Yay! Congratulations!

I am 11 weeks today with fraternal twins (we had an early scan). Due date is mid august but I think it will be more like end of July if they are born at 37 weeks.

How are you feeling? My food aversions are crazy! I knew probably from about 7.5 weeks that it would be twins, DH thought I was winding him up (we already have a 2.5 year old). As I am a twin myself, and the pregnancy felt so much more intense and I could feel them! Had scan at 8 weeks 4 days which confirmed it. We had a bad experience with DD as a baby- colic and CMPA, doctor failed us massively and it didn’t get sorted till 4 months. She was also a very high needs baby in general until about 20 months! She’s an angel now though Grin

So yeah I’m excited but absolutely TERRIFIED!

irishmamatobe · 21/01/2021 13:54

Hi, I don't have much to offer but we're due near the same time in 13 weeks plus 6 found out last week we were expecting twins 🙈 had my consultant appointment yesterday and was sent away with a booklet of information trying to read through, I also had MMC in august of last year, so this is just a blessing, be nice to follow as were in the same boat ☺️

Dinky06 · 23/01/2021 12:18

Hi ladies, hope everyone is doing well?

@Redsquirrel5 thank you! I’ve checked out TAMBA and they are now the Twins Trust - thank you @Chelyanne for sharing the details. I’ve registered for twins antenatal sessions with them in addition to my NCT ones. I think the specific advice will be really helpful!

@Chelyanne thanks for sharing your experience. It’s so reassuring to hear you can raise twins and not lose your mind! The reactions from some people when they hear it’s twins are quite amusing on that front! How are you getting on in your current pregnancy?

Hi @RustyCat congrats! How are you feeling? I’m feeling huge too! I’m 17 weeks today with DCDA twins and have gained 11kg so far!

@Toddlerandtwinstobe super exciting indeed! How is your little one feeling about becoming an older sister? Hope you are keeping well. My in laws are each a set of twins and they’re so excited to see the twin thing pass on :)

@irishmamatobe awww congrats!! The information overload is quite overwhelming. I keep feeling I should be trying to learn more and plan more but then equally can’t quite face it!

I'm doing OK. Had my first midwife appointment at the Twins Clinic on Tuesday. The midwife was lovely and it was just super cute seeing the twins on screen 😍 My nausea has passed which is a relief but I get terrible hip ache in the night from sleeping on my side. Going to try some pillows to see if that helps! Xx

This pregnancy is going well so far thank you, a constant worry as I had a mc in July. Desperate to see how things are in there but held off a private scan as I got one last time and that didn't ease worry.

I wish you the best of luck for the rest of pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Dinky06 · 24/01/2021 10:50

@Chelyanne glad to hear so far so good. I came across a lady called Zoe Clark-Coates who published a book called Pregnancy After Loss. I got a copy and it's really well written although I'm not the daily positive affirmations type. That said if you Google her you may find some of her interviews online and she has such empathy for pregnancy after a miscarriage. I've found a lot of my friends don't really understand why it's so scary - I guess they think just being pregnant is the aim.

What with lockdown, I do wish time would go a bit faster! What are everyone's due dates? I hit 37 weeks at 12 June. We were meant to get married on the 19th but Covid and the twins have put paid to that one. Sending everyone lots of lovely vibes for the day xxx

@Dinky06 we haven’t actually told her yet haha. As we know she’ll just want them ‘now’, she loves babies though and we have been watching some twin babies on YouTube. Smile I have my 12 week scan on 2nd feb, I’ll be 12 weeks 5 days then, and my due date is 12th August. But I guess they will be born in July? I’m a bit nervous about the scan as being my anxious self I kept reading about vanishing twin :( I had my private scan at 8 weeks 4 days and all was fine then. It’s only week 11 though and these last few days my intense sickness and food aversions have stopped! With DD I was sick everyday for about 16 weeks. But I guess every pregnancy is different. Anyone else had similar with the sickness stopping?

Never heard of twins clinic! Is that something they have in all areas? I will be moving soon so I’ll have my first scan here and then have to start all over again somewhere else.

I joined a group recommend on here, it’s on Facebook and called something like breastfeeding twins Uk. Really finding it useful as I’d love to feed them like I did with DD. Trying to be as prepared as possible!

Hope you’ve all had a nice weekend. We’ve had snow here which has been a nice distraction!

RustyCat · 24/01/2021 12:07

@Dinky06 we don't talk about the weight gain 😂. I made the mistake of stepping on my scales a few weeks ago and it was a rather large and unexpected number!

Feeling better this weekend, was in absolute agony with my pelvis, hips and lower back last week, but thankfully that's lifted off a bit now. Got my next scan tomorrow when I'll officially be 24 weeks!

Dinky06 · 24/01/2021 16:18

@Toddlerandtwinstobe awww that makes total sense!! Can't imagine explaining a 37 week wait at that age is an easy one!! Super cute to be watching twins videos though. I keep looking at pictures of random twins on Instagram. It can keep me super occupied! My nausea finally stopped about a week ago which is a relief! I think it is different every time but I'm definitely feeling better in the second trimester than I did before. Such a relief! The twins clinic is the antenatal clinic route for twins at my local hospital. I'm not sure how other hospitals manage it but there is a dedicated midwife who is also a sonographer as well so she does a welfare scan (no measurements) alongside urine test and blood pressure etc and generally tracks things for you. She did say that we'll obvi meet our obstetrician in time to discuss a birth plan but would only see them sooner if there was a complication. Thanks for the FB recommendation, I'll check that out. I'm going to try feeding and see how I get on otherwise formula it is.

@RustyCat good advice! I'm not stepping on them again!!! So exciting to hit the 24 week milestone. Must be nice to be counting down now. Glad to hear you're a bit more comfortable. I'm still getting hip pain on which ever side I'm lying on but it's either getting more bearable or I'm getting used to it as I'm sleeping a bit better. I still have to pee a few times a night but am managing 8 hours sleep most nights. I've started putting myself to bed a lot earlier to help. Keep us posted on how things develop, I'd love to hear how you're finding things and what to expect!

Hi all, I'm also expecting twins, but not very far along yet, I'm about nine weeks, I had an early scan due to previous miscarriage. It would be nice to speak to other twin mum's to be - these will be my first children and I am fairly scared about managing twins! Not helped by extreme nausea which I'm hoping will pass. When did your nausea start to go, OP?

Twinmum2021 · 04/03/2021 12:25

Hi all lovely twin mummies, it was nice reading this thread. I am currently 20 week with twins and everything is fine normal and fine atm. Found out yesterday that I am having one of each. I am just worried about the coming weeks, reading too many horrible birth stories and preterm labour. I am 40 now and very concerned about my age. It was an unexpected pregnancy and I have 3 children already who are 16, 15 and 11 . I am so worried about possible complications and just making me anxious.
It was lovely reading all the positive things on this thread. Please keep us posted about how things are developing ❤️❤️

kerbearr · 04/03/2021 14:16

@Twinmum2021 congratulations on your twins and and finding out there's one of each, we must be around the same due date I'm 20 weeks tomorrow had my 20 week scan on Tuesday didn't find out the sex tho have to go back and finish the scan in 2 weeks as they were moving around too much the wee friggers lol. These are my first babies big shock! Hope you and everyone else is keeping well.

Twinmum2021 · 04/03/2021 15:10

Twinmum2021 · 05/03/2021 13:36

@Lizziejayne13.. Congratulations hun, we are in the same boat. I have 2 teen agers as well. Totally forgotten 🙈🙈. How’s your pregnancy going on. Good luck

HermioneKipper · 05/03/2021 13:43

Wow congrats to all the twin mums to be! Twin pregnancy is so tough on the body, take it easy and rest as much as possible. Easier said than done of course!

Wow @Twinsagain21 another set is just unbelievable! You are a superwoman!

Mine are now 15 months now and I’d really recommend joining your local twins and multiples group for support and to connect with other people in the same boat. Was an absolute life saver for me.

Twinsagain21 · 05/03/2021 14:09

Thanks. First set are 2 years old now, I had hypermesis and by the end I looked like a whale. Was meant to be induced at 38 weeks but they arrived at 37+1. Fraternal twins run in the family so we knew it would happen but didn’t think it would happen twice.

HermioneKipper · 05/03/2021 16:16

@Twinsagain21 oh you poor thing. I had hyperemesis with my twins too and it was the worst time of my life. Fraternal twins are also in my family but I just didn’t think it would happen to me! Twice is unbelievable! You must still be in shock

Lizziejayne13 · 09/03/2021 11:30
