Hi I'm just wondering if anyone can help or has/is in the same position. I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant had two growth scans first one was below centile line and second is now on the 5th centile. I'm due to have another scan this week, but have just received a phone call from the consultant telling me that I'm going to have to be induced and she may find it hard to get out so may have to have c section! I suffer very bad with anxiety spoke with midwife and she said that yes I may need to be induced if she not growing after this scan. I'm now very worried and paranoid and just wondering if anyone can ease my mind a little or if anyone has any more information. Would be great to hear. Xx

my baby measured small all through my pregnancy and i was induced two weeks early because of it. i was induced on the tuesday morning and by friday afternoon nothing was happening and my baby was distressed so i ended up having an emergency section. my baby was small - 4lb 6oz - but perfectly healthy and we were allowed home after two days. if i could go back and had the choice i wouldn’t have been induced because she just wasn’t ready to come out. i’d speak to the consultant and see what they say. i was offered weekly scans towards the end to check growth so maybe that’s an option if you don’t want to be induced, and then obviously if she isn’t growing then induction may be necessary - but hopefully not!

Thank you for your reply. Yeah this was the consultant that told me this is what was going to happen but I didn't have to be induced if I didn't want to. Which I didn't understand considering her phoning me telling me this was going to happen then at the end giving me the option xx

Hi Charlou89, I saw your post and thought my experience may be helpful. Both my girls were small when they were born. The first we were concerned about but, despite having repeated scans, nothing was done. She came naturally at 40 weeks but was extremely weak and her blood sugar was low. She is a strong and healthy 5 year old now. For our second, we had consultant care because our first one was small at birth (5lb 8oz) and, again, her growth slowed towards the end. At 37 weeks we were advised by our consultant to get her out. I opted for a c section. I didn't want an induction because my last one struggled with birth as she was small and also I have heard lots of stories about failed inductions. Our section was great. I was given some steroid injections beforehand to help mature our daughter's lungs and she came out healthy and happy at 5lb 12oz. She is now a very solid and happy 18 month old. I would definitely recommend a planned c section. Good luck with whatever you decide to go for! X

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure weather I wanted a c section cause of my anxiety. It worries me. But then I wouldn't want to struggle through labour. I'm not sure what's happening at the min. I've just received 5 more scan for every week plus doppler scan up until my due date. I think it's just scaring me because I don't know what's going to happen or what is going on as she was gaining weight so I thought there would be no more scans xx

I was the same, i had a few scans, measuring below the 3rd centile. At 37 weeks they told me if he measured below at this scan i was to be induced. I took my hospital bag and everything in the car, went to the scan, he was now measuring on the 50th centile. 🤣 i wasnt sure how the jump could be so big, but i wasnt induced, went home with all my bags in tow and baby was born at 40+7 with no intervention and weighed a nice 7lb2oz :)

charlou89 · 22/01/2021 01:01

Oh wow congratulations that's a massive jump. I'm hoping that's the same with me. They've booked me more scans all the way up to my due date. Just worried and hoping she does go up on the chart xx

Mine measured small from the very first scan. Consultant lead and growth scan every couple of weeks.
At 37 weeks the growth stop and was offered the induction.
Induced Friday with a pessary that did nothing. Sunday evening hormone drip and got my baby Monday morning. Natural delivery without complications. Baby healthy.
Born under the lowest centil, by 6 months was and has been following in the 50% centile since.
