24 weeks - persistent pain lower abdomen

Hi everyone.

I'm 24 + 5 and for the last week or so Iv had persistent pain in my lower right abdomen? It hurts every time I move/ walk anything!

It also it feels like Iv pulled it? It's like a pulling type pressure type "bruised" pain.

Iv done nothing strenuous nor have I had any accidents or bumped my belly etc.

Does anyone know what this may be or had it before?

Could it just be more stretching as I get bigger? Really not sure whether to pass it off or be a-bit more worried about it x

I'd say it's more stretching but I'm no expert as I've only had 1. Currently pregnant (13 weeks) with my 2nd and have had some pains too.

Hopefully someone will come along with more experience.

Also, have you mentioned this to your midwife?

3rdtimemomma · 20/01/2021 20:03

I haven't as yet as it started just after my last appointment- I might drop her a text x

Please mention to your midwife. I don’t want to scare you I had similar pain and it was my appendix grumbling. It’s rare but hard to spot in pregnancy. Normally lower right abdominal pain in non-pregnant people they check the appendix. My pain felt like bruising, and then food poisoning, always when I was walking. Say to your midwife (maybe mention appendix), keep and eye on it, and if it gets worse rather than better then get a scan.

It’s probably nothing but don’t take the risk. (My baby is fine). Hope it goes ok.

I did google this.... and it did mention appendix.... I'm going to text her and see what she says or advises... had you had any previous appendix problems?? @peapotter
I'm not very clued up on anything appendix related I.e causes etc.

Thankyou xx

The pain is very low like just above groin level low if this makes sense at all.... it's so hard to tell in pregnancy exactly where and with everything being squished! X

Just noticed your user name- Mine was 3rd pregnancy too. I’d never had any appendix issues before. At first I thought it was baby kicking for about a week, worse when I moved, then bruising, then food poisoning. I was sure it wasn’t labour. I was in touch with the midwives about the pain as it got worse but no-one realised what it was until after surgery (baby had to be delivered emergency when it burst, 25 weeks, all fine thank God). If I’d have gone to the hospital earlier they could have removed it without affecting baby.

Appendicitis has no know cause, tends to happen in teenagers but can be any age. Harder to diagnose in pregnancy as it can move. My pain was 3” below and 3” right of my belly button. Actually further due to the bump! Always the same spot.

Really, it is more likely to be stretching or something else, but do get it checked out and keep an eye on it. A scan can diagnose.
Don’t leave it as long as I did!

I don’t want to worry you though, and I was in a lot more pain for days before mine burst. Hope you get some reassurance soon.

3rdtimemomma · 20/01/2021 21:24

Well I read the time it seems to take for it to burst and it doesn't seem to be that long! I'd say Iv had the pain for a good 5/6 days now... but along with it all and maybe it's due to being my 3rd pregnancy and age etc but the pressure down below is intense! I literally feel some days that this baby will fall out of me!

Mine was probably a week or more of grumbling pain, followed by 5 days of bad pain, before it burst. But everyone is different of course.

I didn’t contact my midwife directly, I phoned triage at the hospital. That might be a faster route if you’re worried. Please mention appendix though, as they didn’t think of it for me.

3rdtimemomma · 20/01/2021 21:43

I think it's quicker to ring triage - always feel like an absolute pain ringing but really I just want some advice so hopefully they will be able to just give some of that and I'll mention the appendix thing, I'll ring in the morning and go from there. My midwife works certain days and takes awhile to get back anyway.

Thankyou xxx

Hey,
Just to say I had fibroid issues that developed like this with my first pregnancy. They thought it might be appendix. Definitely go to triage and get it checked out and mention both possibilities as once they ruled out appendix for me they told me it was constipation and sent me home - which just resulted in me being rushed back in the next day and staying in a week on pain medication! There isn't much they can do if a fibroid degenerates but they need to take precautions around the birth so you should get checked out. They don't always get picked up at the scans depending on where they are and they can grow so fast!
Hoping it's just some stretching (the most likely scenario 🙂)
Xxxx

Iv read up about round ligament pain also... maybe it's that? I'm going to feel really dramatic and silly if it's something minor but I'm such a worrier that I find it difficult to just be left wondering what it may or may not be 🤦🏽‍♀️

How are you today @3rdtimemomma?

3rdtimemomma · 21/01/2021 15:04

Hi!

Typically doesn't feel as bad today! 🤦🏽‍♀️ I'm glad it's not as bad so I'm thinking it's more from ligaments stretching!

I didn't do too much last night and today rested a lot! Thinking ... 2 days ago I took my children on a bike ride and I walked for 1 hour and 10 minutes so no wonder 🤦🏽‍♀️

I think just taking it easy is the answer and Iv ordered a pregnancy pillow for night time! X
