Hi everyone,

I am really struggling! My 3rd daughter is on her way and we can't decide on a name. My eldest daughters names are Ines Philippa and Margot Marie and if this one was a boy we had it all sorted with the name Flynn John. However, we have kind of been thrown a curve ball with another girl - delighted but surprised!

DD1's name is Italian and honouring my DH fathers heritage and her middle name is my mums name which we love. DD2's name is more English to honour my heritage and the middle name is DH mothers. However, this time we don't have a clear route other than wanting to have my name (Kitty) or my dads mums name (Dorothy) as a middle name. I love strong names but also spins of classics for girls; Ines is Italian/Portuguese form of Agnes and Margot is derived from Margaret and i want something similar this time.

Our names currently are:
Astrid
Eliza
Lucy
Delilah
Matilde

Any suggestions/ thoughts would be appreciated as my mind is completely jumbled and i just don't really know if any of these 'go' with my other daughters names!!

Thanks x

It's all so subjective isn't it? Personally I don't like Astrid as it reminds me of Astral hand cream and seems a bit harsh sounding.

I think Eliza is beautiful. Lucy is nice but a tad boring when compared to the lovely Margot and Ines.

Matilde...no...too French. Delilah...quite nice but not a huge fan.

I love your names! They are so lovely, especially Margot.
I love Martha, but probably too similar to Margot.
Like Clementine atm.
From your list, I've never liked Astrid. I love Lucy ( but not with Ines and Margot). Lucia ?
I love Delihah and Matilde is great.
Esmeralda nn Esme ?
Eden. Felicity?

Amdone123 · 20/01/2021 05:37

Dorothea?

KittyElleJames · 20/01/2021 07:21

Thank you for all your thoughts so far! This is really the struggle I LOVED Ines and Margot so much and I cannot seem to find a name that goes in any way really or that we love the same. We did also discuss Lottie as a full name but just not sure :/

If you like Lucy then how about Lucille, which I think fits better with Ines and Margot? Your DDs have such beautiful names, I’m sure DD3 will, too ☺️

wanderlove · 20/01/2021 08:29

I love both your daughters names and the potential names. They are not quite my style but I think they are lovely. I keep getting drawn to Eliza as fitting the style. I also think felicite spelt the French way with an accent would work? I love the meaning of the name especially for a third child who inevitably will bring so much joy to her big sisters

WalkingMeAway · 20/01/2021 08:36

Lucille Dorothy would be lovely

KittyElleJames · 20/01/2021 08:53

Lucille is a gorgeous name it is so pretty :)
But I do worry about nicknames - both Ines and Margot go by there full names (other than stupid nicknames we sometimes use with no relation to their names) which I adore about them. I just worry Lucille will constantly get a) butchered (my husband is half American, half Italian and I cannot see his American side of the family embracing it 😂) or b) nicknames to Lucie or Lucy constantly at school. Are they irrational fears I don’t know!

Eliza is a lovely name. Elouise is similar and also really nice I think

helpmum2003 · 20/01/2021 09:08

Your girls have gorgeous names. I like all your suggestions but agree with PP that Lucy is maybe a bit plain compared to DD1 and 2. I like Lucille and Clementine as PP have suggested. Mathilde may be constantly misspelt and mispronounced as Matilda which is also a good option. What about Emilia for another Italian option?

helpmum2003 · 20/01/2021 09:09

Emmeline is also a good strong name.

FortunesFave · 20/01/2021 09:16

Louisa?

Antoinette?

Arrierttyclock · 20/01/2021 09:21

Could you use Dorothy as a first name instead?
Ines, Margot and Dorothy I think are lovely together!

KittyElleJames · 20/01/2021 09:30

Both Emilia and Louisa are cute but unfortunately they are my nieces names so I can’t use them! I am not sure about Antoinette - but French maybe?

I also forgot to mention that Maeve is sort of on our list we love it because it’s so strong but not sure about Margot being too similar?
