Ectropion in early pregnancy

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with ectropion in early pregnancy? I’m nearly 6 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding and had cramps. Went to the hospital yesterday and was told I have ectropion which is apparently really common in early pregnancy and doesn’t affect the pregnancy. I don’t know of anyone having this and bleeding while pregnant just seems so wrong. Especially after having a MC a couple of months back.
Was just wondering if anyone had experienced this and if they bled the whole way through or just in intervals and if they had a successful pregnancy ?
Thanks in advance for any advise !

I was diagnosed with cervical ectropian at approx 14 weeks after a big bleed. I have roughly a bleed a week, sometimes very light other times heavier and include clots. I have to be seen by triage every time, they do an internal confirm bleeding is from the ectropian and I am sent on my way.

I was referred for a colposcopy at 25 weeks after 3 bleeds very close together and I will be monitored throughout my pregnancy every 8 weeks and biopsies taken if there is a change in cells they aren’t comfortable with.

I am now 29+3. It’s scary everytime it happens, and I have anxiety every time I go to the loo but I have to try and stay positive.

Few things I would say is, don’t be alarmed that after the internal exam you will have quite a lot of bleeding. When a bleed starts put a pad on and take pictures of the tissue you wiped with. The midwifes really will appreciate it, and it makes it easier than trying to explain

I have bled a lot after the examination and have had some clots so I’m glad you said that!
It’s so alarming to see blood and I feel like I’m on my period.
Thank you so much for replying ! It’s so comforting to know someone else is going through the same thing. I feel so anxious especially as it’s started so early during this pregnancy. I just hope everything stays ok for the pregnancy. They confirmed my cervix is closed so I’m taking that as good news for now and have another scan on 27th.

Yes it really is quite alarming, especially the clots but definitely take pictures each time with something next to it for reference even just your finger nail.

Looking back I had spotting on and off which I assumed was irregular periods as I had come off the pill, then found out I was pregnant, so Im reality the bleeding probably started much earlier.

I have the same anxiety and with each week passes I feel a little bit more reassured. Passing 24 weeks was a huge one!

Don’t be afraid to ring triage at any point, any bleeding in pregnancy is taken very seriously and you will be looked after.

I’ll definitely start taking pictures, thank you for the advice. It can be difficult trying to explain to drs what it looks like !

I’m trying to take it in stages. I have my scan on 27th when I should be about 7 weeks. Then I want to make it to the 12 week scan. Then 20 and so on. I’m just hoping I get to all of the landmarks and get to the end with a baby!

I think I’m just extra stressed and anxious as I lost one at 5 weeks in November so was anxious anyway and the bleeding and cramps make me even more so!

@NatNoo96 I don’t have an ectropian but I have had a similar experience with a polyp. I’m 12 weeks and at 10 weeks I had bleeding for three days and was seen by EPU. When they did an internal examination which is when they found the polyp. I have an appointment on Thursday to decide what to do about it. The bleeding is really scary, but I guess at least there is a cause and it’s not coming from the pregnancy. Reminding myself of that has helped me stop myself from freaking out when it’s started again. I was told though that if it carries on past 10 days to go back and get checked out, so don’t hesitate to ask for help if you’re worried x

NatNoo96 · 19/01/2021 18:45

@MintGreenLife yeah you have a really good point. They have confirmed a reason for the bleeding and it’s not from the pregnancy so I have to try and stay more positive.

@NatNoo96 it’s easier said than done, I have days where I’m worrying endlessly. Your approach to breaking things up is great though. Once you’ve had your scan you’ll be able to add that to your list of positives and reasons to believe everything is OK. I have my 12 week scan on Friday and I’m hoping I can feel a bit calmer afterwards ☺️

NatNoo96 · 19/01/2021 19:42

Ooh lovely! I hope your scan goes well and I’m sure it will!
I think regardless of bleeding there’s always an element of worry but the bleeding just makes it seem even more scary but we will just have to take each week as it comes !

I've suffered with an ectoprian for years. I had it long before I got pregnant with my daughter. I had episodes of bleeding at about 6, 9 and 11 weeks which I believe was because of it. She is now 17 months old!
It did cause quite a lot of bleeding during labour too but it was a very straightforward labour aside from that. Having the baby didn't cure mine unfortunately. I had a smear when she was 16 weeks old and it was still there - doh!
Try not to worry 🙂🙂

@madeinthe80z I’m so happy to hear everything went so well with your pregnancy even though you had a few episodes of bleeding! Hoping I have a similar experience!

@NatNoo96 thanks 😊 yes totally, it’s really scary x

NatNoo96 · 23/01/2021 07:43

Hi ladies, sorry to ask questions again. My bleeding had become heavier now and I had quite a large clot this morning. Is this normal for ectropion ?
I can’t help but fear the worst has happened again.
