I last had my period on 14th December and found out I was pregnant 15th January. I've had 3 positive pregnancy test and a missed period. Doctor referred me to EPU yesterday due to some abdominal pain and I had a scan this morning.
The scan shown no obvious signs of pregnancy apart from she said my womb looked thick which is a good sign and that's it is possibly just far to early in the pregnancy to see anything. I've had blood tests to check my hcg which will be repeated on Thursday and if results show that it's going up hopefully a scan in a few weeks.I'm not sure when I ovulated as my cycles have been all over the place so nurse said I could be anywhere between 3 and 5 weeks.
I'm just wondering if anyone's had a similar experience? this is my first pregnancy so I am absolutely past myself😞
Thank you

But OP try not to worry- it’s FAR to early to really show anything up on a scan! I’m surprised they saw you at EPU as generally they will not for less than six weeks- for this very reason.

Madeoftea · 19/01/2021 14:55

Hi OP, I'm in the same situation. Your dates are even the same as mine! LMP 14th Dec and I tested positive last Friday on the 15th too. I called my EPU this afternoon about some sharp cramps I've been having on one side and they said that although it's super early they still want to see me tomorrow.

I do know when I ovulated and I would be 4+1 today not 5. I'm not getting my hopes up because I know they probably won't see anything but they want to rule an ectopic for me ASAP.

This is also my first pregnancy and I feel a bit sick I'm so anxious. My fingers are crossed for you 🤞

PFin · 19/01/2021 15:02

Im also surprised EPU seen you as you are so early. I knew I was around 7 weeks at a private scan and the girl told me theres a chance we might not see anything and we'd either have to do an internal or wait 2 weeks. Dont panic yet. I got shooting pains in both pregnancies and have a healthy 5 year old and a healthy pregnancy 24 weeks gone. Its tough but sit tight really all you can do is wait at the minute.

RachShad · 19/01/2021 15:03

My friend is also having the same problem with positive tests but nothing showed on scan so I'm just following this thread so I can pass on any advice :) hope everything is okay for your girls

chick37 · 19/01/2021 15:05

@SmidgenofaPigeon - they also done a vaginal ultra sound which didn't show anything, thank you for the reply I need to stay positive and what will be will be x

SmidgenofaPigeon · 19/01/2021 15:07

They would have only considered doing an interval I think as it’s so early, but I think also way too early to show up on that too.

luxxlisbon · 19/01/2021 15:07

I'm surprised they scanned you so early just because of some abdominal pain. I had cramping all the way through the first trimester and it was pretty strong in the first few weeks,

I would try not to feel to negative and upset yet, yesterday the absolute most you could be is 5 weeks pregnant and there is almost nothing to be seen at that stage. If you ovulated even a day or two later you wouldn't even have been 5 yet.

I know it is stressful but there is no reason to worry right now just based on this. Smile

chick37 · 19/01/2021 15:14

Hi @Madeoftea , I can't believe our dates are the same! Congratulations on your pregnancy and I also have my fingers crossed for you! I totally understand the anxious feeling and knowing all you can do is wait😫

OP posts:
SmidgenofaPigeon · 19/01/2021 15:15

*internal sorry. You must have a very dedicated GP and EPU! Abdominal cramping is normal through the first few weeks (although not a great feeling, it makes me anxious too) and they must have known it was vanishingly unlikely anything would be seen at this stage.

chick37 · 19/01/2021 15:48

@PFin - I was also shocked I didn't think they would offer a scan so soon, how long is it before something can be seen? Thank you for the re assurance I'm so much more relaxed now after this thread the women didn't really explain that much
@RachShad - fingers crossed for her and I hope this thread helps here as it has very much put my mind at ease!x

@SmidgenofaPigeon yes my GP is lovely I only mentioned the pain and he said he was referring me but I wasn't expecting the scan so soonShock

If your last period was only on 14 December, it sounds way too early for anything to come up on the scan.

Try not to think the worst, and as the sonographer said, your womb lining was thicker which is a good sign.

SunnySideUp2020 · 19/01/2021 16:00

You cannot rule out an ectopic between 4-5 weeks gestation. It's too early to see anything...
As it was said before cramps are normal in early pregnancy. Unless you are in so much pain you can't cope obviously.
I wouldn't recommend being scanned so early it will just bring on further anxiety about potential location and viability.
But ofc i hope the rescan is positive for all the ladies !

MrsWaititi · 19/01/2021 16:17

I don't think you'd generally see much before 6-8 weeks.

Sohe · 19/01/2021 16:48

Hi there. Try not to worry too much. The blood results will let you know if the hcg is rising and the pregnancy is progressing. Im only 11 weeks but when I was about 4 weeks I had horrendous abdo pain. I was worried about it but turn out to be trapped wind and constipation. Who knew that could be so painful? I have spoken to a lot of people on these forums who experiences the ex at same thing so maybe that could explain the pain? X

BabyC21 · 19/01/2021 19:40

Hi Op, so you are about 5weeks pregnant based on your LMP but if you ovulated late that would put you in the 4 week bracket. I had something very similar happen to me. My GP sent me to A&E at 4 weeks 2 days as she thought I was having an ectopic pregnancy, they scanned me and they could only see a thickened lining. They took bloods and then referred me to the EPU 8 day’s later. Bloods showed that HCG was doubling. My next scan was 5 weeks and 3 day’s and they saw a gestational sac, yolk sac and questionable fetal pole. They said it could go either way and to be prepared for possible bad news. Rescanned again 8 days later at 6 & 4 and we had a growing fetal pole and a heart beat. They said baby was measuring behind about 3 days but should be ok. I was back in the hospital today at 10 & 3 and before they scanned me they said I would likely only measure 10 weeks based on the previous scan (I had private scans in between so I knew I would be measuring more) when they did the scan I am actually now measuring 10 weeks and 5 days and baby is doing great! Hope all goes well for you xx

chick37 · 19/01/2021 20:04

Thank you so much everyone this thread has been brilliant and has certainly helped me a lot! I'll find out on Friday if it's doubling and take it from there🤞🏻

OP posts:
chick37 · 19/01/2021 20:06

@Sohe it could possibly be that as the pain does come and go and it's not like a sharp pain, I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy Smile

OP posts:
chick37 · 19/01/2021 20:13

Hi @BabyC21 - that's sounds like a horrible experience I'm glad you and baby are okay! It is very similar It has re-assured me that many other women have went through the same experience and had a positive outcome... I'm hoping the hcg doubles and they book me a scan for a couple of weeks time
Hope everything goes well and you have a happy healthy pregnancy xx

Hi everyone I just wanted to update this post Incase anybody else is going through the same thing...
Unfortunately it hasn't ended well for me and my rainbow baby my bloods had doubled but unfortunately dropped over the weekend from 1800 to 200 which indicates miscarriage. Remember all pregnancies are different and as others posted it can be completely normal x

OP posts:
BabyC21 · 26/01/2021 19:56

Sorry to hear this @chick37. Take care of yourself and hope you are ok xxx

LovesFood1987 · 26/01/2021 20:01

I'm in a similar position, last period on 12th December... Went in to EPU for bleeding... They said too early to scan. My HCG is not behaving as it should, I've been waiting 9 days to see if pregnancy is viable or not and now have to wait for another 48 hours for another HCG.

Good luck with everything, it's so worrying being pregnant! (Ps was your partner allowed in with you?)
