FTM bassinet/ mini crib question

I live in a small flat so I'm trying to find something that lasts the full 6 months that baby will be in our bedroom without it being too big and bulky. It seems like a moses basket might be out as I would still need something bigger before 6 months, and the full cot in our room wouldn't work so I've been looking at bassinets and cradles but then I came across this mini cot.

Can anyone tell me roughly how long you think this size would be appropriate to use for? Obviously can't say for certain but I will likely have a baby that is slightly on the smaller side.
The dimensions are 79 x 77.8 x 54.1 cm

Google says you should still get a year or two out of a mini cot but i'm unsure if that is for a bigger one.
This would be ideal because we could use it in our room, then wheel it into the babies bedroom after and then transition to a more longterm cot to bed when she is about 12-18 months.

Is there a reason this is a terrible idea?

My DD was 55cm born and according to the growth charts a baby on the 50th centile would be 65ish cm at 6 months.

Can you just co-sleep? We never had a Moses basket or bedside crib. Had a pram bassinette and a king sized bed. (DD slept on me for the first 4 months so anything specifically for her would have been utterly pointless anyway).

Have a read of the sleep forum and the fourth trimester. Most newborns won’t be put down for the first 3 months so a mini crib may not be worth it.

I wouldn't pay that amount of money for something lasting that amount of time

I found a few compact/small cots that were at a better price point when I just looked

Look into a more compact bedside crib, my son is the 98th percentile so that mini cot wouldn't last past 4 months if you have a big baby.

We re lucky in that he can sleep at night in a crib and only sleeps on me when his teethings bad at the moment, but that's not the case for many parents.

Would something like a next 2 me or snuzpod work ( loads of other like this just the two brands I can think off) they are bigger than a Moses basket and should last until 6 months

I used a swinging crib and never co-slept. I couldn't sleep with a baby in the bed

I just don't feel comfortable with a baby full on cosleeping in our bed. She will be in the same room as us beside the bed, but won't be in the bed. Thanks for the sizing help! I'll have a look at sizing charts.

@TitsOot4Xmas I've never heard of someone not putting their newborn down for 3 months to the extent of literally not having anywhere to sleep.

You can't be so sure you will get a smaller baby! I thought DS2 would be small, he wasn't huge at birth but he got very tall and heavy quickly.

What's the problem with fitting a cot in? Would a travel cot fit? Or something like chicco next 2 me or Joie Roomie?

We’re hoping a snuzpod will last till 6 months-ish. You can use it as a standalone crib, or a bedside crib

We had the cot along the bottom of our bed rather than beside it as there was no space

The thing is although it's up to 79cm it won't last until 79cm, they need 10-15cm wiggle room.

@boymum88 I feel like I'm looking for something that is like those in terms of being a sort of in between moses basket and full cot size , but I just hate the look of the snuzpod or next2me. Fussy I know but I want my room to look nice while baby is in it

Thanks! Seems like a mini cot might be okay in general, just this one is a bit small. Totally agree you can't fully know what size they will be/how they will grow.

A typical cot just won't fit in our room, we have an alcove next to the chimney breast which would mean the cot would be beside our bed but it is only 1m or so wide.

I'm looking for something that isn't made of fabric ideally, no reason other than it just isn't my style.

Don't get a cot with a liner - you won't be able to see through the bars. Will not permit air flow either

I would get a compact cot that goes down fully to the floor once they get bigger.

We had the next to me. Ds outgrew it at 4 months. We then put in main cot with mattress on highest setting, but by 6 months he was already sitting and pulling himself up the sides so would have fallen over the top if we couldn’t lower it down fully

@BertieBotts Thanks! This is literally the first day I'm having a search to see if I can find something that suits and I didn't know if this was a small mini cot, or an average mini cot etc.

Definitely need to remember the wiggle room!

It’s quite a bit longer than the one you saw, but it is quite compact and can do up until 3 years.

That crib you have tagged would only be suitable until they start to sit up on their own or obviously until they get too big. I had a biggish baby 8.9lb and had bought a moses basket, was a waste of money he looks so cramped in it we got a swinging crib. I have snuz pod for this one hoping does to near 6 months and have a folding bassinette for downstairs.

That's a full sized cot!

IKEA has one, not sure the name but think it is about £70 for crib and mattress and is small for next to bed, it can rock or be static, sister had one and baby would have fit until about 7-8 months but she put him straight into big cot in his room at 6m

Seems like something like this might work! It would still fit in the space we have but will hopefully be suitable for longer with the baby and she could maybe stay in it for a few months when she goes into her own room. Thanks.
