Anaemic and feeling sick?

Found out last week that I am anaemic and have been given iron tablets. Since I have started taking them I have felt really sick and completely lost my appetite, am even struggling to cook as it makes me feel ill. Am 32 weeks and have not once had any sickness until now and find it strange I suddenly feel like this. Anyone shed any light?

can you supplement your diet so that you can drop the iron tablets? eat lots of green leafy vegetables, oily fish, liver...
info here but i am sure there is more out there

Yellow I am taking iron tablets, but have not had the symptoms you describe - is it worth talking to your doctor about?

perhaps they are very strong? Could your doctor prescribe something less strong that might be taken more often? Also, make sure you are either taking extra vit C with the iron or that the iron you are taking has vit C with it, helps with absorption of iron.... If they are not prescription, perhaps you could check the dosage you are supposed to be getting and talk it through with the pharmacist? Floradix is a good all round iron tonic, but it might not give you what you need if you are v. low on the iron....

Yellow - iron tablets have always made me feel sick too, whether taken whilst pg or not. The only way I can take them is very last thing at night with a glass of orange, that way I am asleep when the nausea hits and it doesn't wake me up (usually!)

yellow - am also 32 weeks and have just been prescribed iron and folic acid pills. They have been making me sick, but I actually didn't associate them with being sick, but it makes sense. I too take them at night before bed and drop off pretty quickly. I have to have my bloods repeated in 2 more weeks and hopefully I won't have to keep taking them. Was v v sick first 12 weeks and don't want it to end like this!
