COVID vaccine while pregnant

Morning ladies.

Just wondering if anyone has had the vaccine while pregnant? I know it’s advised not to unless your a front line healthcare worker (which I am) and it that case you are at higher risk of catching COVID and therefore the vaccine should be considered.
In my at reaching out to anyone in a similar situation as I really don’t know what to do for the best x

I have been advised against getting it from my midwife. My friend who is currently on mat leave and breastfeeding has also been advised against it (she is a frontline worker for NHS).

The midwife sent me this link -
www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-women-of-childbearing-age-currently-pregnant-planning-a-pregnancy-or-breastfeeding/covid-19-vaccination-a-guide-for-women-of-childbearing-age-pregnant-planning-a-pregnancy-or-breastfeeding

I think you need to just absorb the info and go with your gut. Sounds airy-fairy but I think everyone has a different opinion, experience, fears that you cannot make this decision based on what other people say or do.

It is a hard one.

@Purpleflowers21....it was really just the way it worked out 🤣
My partner asked the opinion of the consenting Dr when he got his. I went to speak to one before making my mind up and booking the appt.
The next 2 Drs were because I had to consent twice (delayed 1st attempt as there wasn't 7 days between whooping cough vaccine and covid).

I'm not really as neurotic as the list sounds.
The pharmacists are colleagues.

Everyone I spoke to prior to having it was also supportive in giving the same information you read online but weighing it up for you individually.
@Purpleflowers21 only 4+3 so super early!

I’m a doctor and had it last week at 18 wks. I’m going to be working from home from 28 wks but husband (also a doctor) will still be going to work and if schools are open my kids will be going in. I did lots of reading and can’t see a possible mechanism for harm from the vaccine. I’m glad I had it.

I can book an appointment on Monday if I want to, I’m in two minds but I’m terrified about catching covid in my third trimester.

stairway · 16/01/2021 22:52

I think I might ask my GP week first, maybe they could just sign me off for the next 4 weeks and I can just isolate at home and not have to worry about taking a gamble either way. I’m not a gambler and if seems that is the choice left open for pregnant healthcare workers.

Ohhh im so glad for this thread. I cannot decide what to do. Im CEV as have lupus. So im currently WFH. Im usually a front line worker, but work in paediatrics where we have few positive patients- but do have the parents. All mums on the neonatal unit are screened initially for covid but as time passes, these babies stay for a long time and parents are not repeatedly screened. I wonder as vaccines increase, will i be asked to go back? My husband is a keyworker although not in hospital. They are very busy due to covid (with rubbish protocols imo) and he has to be in work, risking bringing it home. Is it worth me having the vaccine, as if i get covid im high risk and could really harm me and baby, or am i risking a reaction (the other side of lupus) and also the unknown status for my baby. Due early june. Opionions very welcome.

stairway · 17/01/2021 16:36

I’ve just had look on google and the whooping cough vaccine might also provide some protection against covid. There are a few scientific papers based on this theory.

PeanutButterFalcon · 17/01/2021 20:04

I work in healthcare so have been offered the vaccine. Originally I thought I would get it when I’m further along as the baby will be more developed then. However, after seeing the reactions people are having at work (mainly a fever and aches) I think I will shield the best I can until after and have it then

WalrusWife · 18/01/2021 12:13

I won’t be having it whilst pregnant or breastfeeding personally.

hjbells2703 · 19/01/2021 21:08

I am also a NHS worker - and I have really thought about whether or not to get the vaccine or not.
I'm now 15+2 weeks.
My gut says to wait until I've delivered - I know it sounds very selfish but we don't have enough research on the effects of the vaccine on pregnancies and babies.

I have to say - since reading the RCOG leaflet for pregnant women - I am no more convinced or inclined to get the vaccine.

Amichelle84 · 20/01/2021 16:17

I had my vaccination booked for Sat as I have underlying health issues, then found out a few hrs later I was pregnant. I called the GP to make them aware and they cancelled it straight away. I called them back and am speaking to a GP about it tomorrow as for me, I think having the vaccine is the most Important thing.

Skl2021 · 09/03/2021 13:45

@Amichelle84 can I just ask if u had it? I have just been offered it and currently ttc and just gone into tww. Dont know if I should have it now while I don't know if in pregnant or wait 🤔

Amichelle84 · 09/03/2021 13:54

yes, I did have mine i think I was about 4 or 5w along. So far so good with the pregnancy, im now 12w.
Definitely an individual choice, im clinically vulnerable so weighed up the risks.

Skl2021 · 09/03/2021 15:32

@Amichelle84 great thankyou im also clinically vulnerable so I am swaying to having it just didn't know if u had to be so far along in pregnancy before u could have it. And if there were risks to having it so early on.

Goonbear · 27/03/2021 18:20

I've had mine today. I'm a teacher and due to start ivf next month. I felt the risks of getting it were more likely than side effects from the vaccine. Yes I would be interested in the impact of having the vaccine early in pregnancy too xx
