Feeling movements

Hi I'm 14 + 3 and just wondering when you start feeling the baby move? I have one friend that's saying I should be feeling it moving already, but reading up it says you won't start feeling anything until at least 16 weeks?

I think feeling movements at 14 weeks is early! With my first I felt them at 19 weeks and with my second I felt it at 17 weeks; probably felt it earlier with my second because I knew what to look out for

I have started to feel very faint flutters the past week

JemimaTiggywinkle · 12/01/2021 07:52

About 20 weeks (first baby)

15+4 with my first but I was like bent over a desk at work and my trousers were pressing in. Less than 12 with my second.

I was about 17 weeks when I noticed a few bubbles in the evening (quite obviously not wind) and then slowly has progressed so I feel more frequently throughout the day now at 19+3. Some times it's very faint and others more of a definite kick. This is my first baby

Aww thanks ladies, it's my first baby so I don't know what to look out for, but I'm sure I'll know when I feel it. It's so annoying sometimes when people tell you what they think you should be feeling and when, it makes you so paranoid.
I'm at home as I'm furloughed so I suppose I'm just sitting around waiting for something to happen 🤣

I can just about feel mine and I'm nearly 22 weeks xx

I don't think there is a "should" for this - everyone genuinely is different and every baby is different. I've had 2 different MW and one of them was asking if I'd felt anything at 16 weeks and telling me there should be a pattern at 20 weeks, the other was shocked I could feel anything at all that early in my first PG. FWIW, I have a posterior placenta and felt first movements at about 14/15 weeks but wasn't 100% confident that's what they were until more like 16/17 weeks. Not really regular until closer to 20 weeks and still no proper pattern at 28. Even now I'm sometimes a little unsure whether it's actually the baby when they've moved into a different position and the movements are less noticeable. There are also times when I can feel them with a hand on my tummy but can't feel anything inside - discovered this when I was panicking about lack of movement and DH said "well I can feel him - he's just moved over here". Sure enough I could feel it too.

Early movements for me felt like tiny muscle spasms, kind of like when your eyelid flutters out of your control but low down in my tummy. They'd be gone so quickly I wondered if I imagined it but eventually happened often enough that I knew that's what it was for sure.

I'm 23 weeks, second baby and still barely feeling anything. It varies wildly for most people. 14 weeks is very very early.

I’m 18 weeks and started to feel something around 16 weeks(nearly 17), it’s such a lovely thing but as said above everyone is different. My friend is the same as me and hasn’t felt anything cause her placenta is at the front where as mine is at the back! So don’t worry if you don’t feel anything later, everything is normal at this stage xxx

LaMadrilena · 12/01/2021 13:08

As others have said, there isn't really a "should" or a "normal." Depends on the mother, the baby, the position of the placenta... NHS advice is to tell the midwife if you don't feel movements by 24w. I started around 17w, and apparently that's quite early for a 1st.

Thank you for the reassurance ladies 😊
