Scan because of heart murmur while pregnant

Hello just looking for similar stories,

I’m 22 weeks pregnant and have an underlying murmur. It’s been underlying for years but I can’t have a tooth a filling without getting my heart checked at the GP. I have just received a referral for a scan of my heart to determine whether I might need to have a section instead of natural labour due to the heart murmur.

Has anyone has been in this situation before and what your outcome was? Xxxx

Hey, I had 2 large holes in my heart (ASD) these weren't detected until after I had my daughter in 2017. Finding was accidental when I was having other tests done. I delivered her by emergency Csection and the holes where closed in 2018. I was 30 at the time. I am currently on the last couple of weeks of my 2nd pregnancy and been checked every trimester at my local cardiac hospital. I am consultant led for this pregnancy and they have done their own check to see if I can labour naturally or not. I am lucky I can, but these appointments and extra care will be just to check and if not they will have a back up plan - Csection. My advice is to relax, what will be will be. Even if you plan a water birth - which I did for my first things can change and it's all to protect you and your baby.
Be prepared for you heart scan to last a while think my first was over 45minutes as sometime hearts apparently hide...that's what my consultant says and with your ever growing bump it takes a while for them to collect their images so try and relax.
It's great they are checking you! Make sure you also have a scan after baby is born as well to double check that it is still ok and the strain of pregnancy hasn't had an impacted. If you have any questions please let me know and I will see if I can help. Take care x

I’m actually getting an echo this week. If that’s what you are getting it’s essentially the same as an ultrasound. It will not harm baby in any way xx
