Bumps

Hi just wondering if anyone can help settle my mind
I'm currently 14 weeks 2 days and I've seen online a couple women that are as far along as me and have a noticeable bump and I don't seem to have one at all. I looked it up and it said first time mums (which I am) will start to get one around 14-16 weeks and now I'm just worrying if something could be wrong or if I'm just completely over thinking it?

I'm sure the midwife told me some of it is to do with the strength of your tummy muscles. Maybe yours are just a bit stronger?

Try not to worry. I think it's quite an individualised thing. Some of my friends didn't have bumps as such with their first horns until 20ish weeks.

First born** even. If you're feeling really anxious, it might be worth just giving your midwife a txt or call for some reassurance.

Don’t worry. I’m a first time mum too and trust me, I don’t have strong tummy muscles at all. At around 16 weeks I looked bloated and then literally overnight around week 16-17, I popped into a bump. Even then, it was small and would disappear sometimes, depending on where he was lying. I mean, I got married at 12 weeks and wore my figure hugging wedding dress!

I’m now 27 weeks and I feel like a whale!

I would be amazed if you should anything before 16 weeks, so don't worry about it.

Thanks this is good to know! I hadn't been told this!

@MsHedgehog I do agree with you, said MW commented on tummy muscles but I can assure you having previously lost 5+ stone and not being an exercise lover, my tummy muscles weren't and still aren't up to much but it did take me a good while to get a bump despite being a fairly average sized 14.

luxxlisbon · 11/01/2021 10:44

I think it just depends on your weight, fitness and body structure before pregnancy.

I am 14 weeks and even though I still haven't gained all my weight back from morning sickness I do have a bump. It isn't noticeable to other people yet but it looks a lot different to my pre pregnancy tummy. I think it is because I am slim and short with a shorter torso.

SunnySideUp2020 · 11/01/2021 10:52

Don't compare yourself to people. Obviously the "bumps" you see online, well, are bumps! People who don't have noticeable ones don't post those things. And at 14 weeks few people actually have a bump. Most are just bloated (including me)
Everybody is different. Shapes, height, starting weight and morphology, posture, weight gain etc...
If you feel something is wrong talk to your midwife though!
But honestly i wouldn't start comparing myself
and worrying or it will be a long journey ahead...

Parkandride · 11/01/2021 10:54

I'm 25 weeks and still more of a rounded/curved stomach than a proper bump, this didn't appear until around 20 weeks. I'm tallish but have short legs so think I must just have a long torso! Think it depends so much on your shape, muscles, babies position etc

I had a proper freak out when I searched for people's bumps at the same stage and saw all these huge bumps but felt much better after my 20 week scan and when baby started moving. Now I'm just feeling thankful I can still roll onto my stomach!

I got slightly bloated all over early in pregnancy, but didn’t get a bump shaped bump until well past 20 weeks.

I’m now 28 weeks and getting lots of comments that I “don’t look pregnant”, but according to midwife’s measurement my bump is exactly average sized.

It’s really individual, please don’t worry. Midwives will start monitoring how much your bump is growing after 28 weeks.

Luckyelephant1 · 11/01/2021 23:52

Im 14 weeks and don't yet have a bump. I'm pretty slim and carry all my weight on my belly anyway so it sort of could look like one but it hasn't really changed since before I became pregnant. A couple of friends say their bumps literally popped overnight around 18 to 20 weeks so I wouldn't worry. I know what you mean though I googled 14 week bump photos and some of them are huge!

Luckyelephant1 · 11/01/2021 23:53

*since becoming pregnant

ButtaCup · 11/01/2021 23:55

Don’t get worried! I didn’t have much of a bump at all in my first pregnancy, I could very easily hide my bump. I’m currently 24 weeks pregnant with my second and I still have a really small bump, baby is healthy. My first was 6lbs 3oz, so quite small but I’m small myself. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, everyone’s different

PollyLH · 12/01/2021 00:01

I’m having twins and didn’t have a bump before 20 weeks. It really seemed to blow peoples minds but I feel like that’s actually quite normal.

TooManyKidsSendHelp · 12/01/2021 06:13

Everyone is so different. I've known mums who were still barely showing at the end of the second trimester. I showed very early. Even earlier with my second!
