16 week midwife phone appointment

Hello, has anyone had this recently? What sort of things are discussed? I've only seen my midwife one for 2 minutes to sign some forms at around 8 weeks, bloods were done by someone else & the booking appointment was over the phone. Have contacted her about a few issues so far & felt like I was fobbed off really, just wondering what the point of the phonecall is! Thank you x

Mine was basically a quick “how are you” and then she gave me the date of my next appointmentS pretty pointless.

Sorry forgot to say this is my second baby, do you generally see the midwife for less checks when it's not your first? X

Yes you do see your midwife less for a second baby. There's a schedule on the NHS website. I found the 16w one pretty pointless and much as peachy said but if you have questions it'd be a good time to ask. Didn't meet midwife in person til 28ws I think.

I presume you have pregnancy insomnia like me?!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/01/2021 04:24

I've hardly seen a midwife through this apart from 12 week scan, 20 week scan and then a rescan. Have met my actual midwife twice for appointments where they measure bump, ask a few questions, sample urine and take blood. Cancelled the last one as I don't want to go into the hospital when there's nothing wrong.
Is there a reason you want to see them more? What things have you had to contact them about?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/01/2021 04:25

I'm 38 weeks now

Yes pregnancy insomnia!
I have another health issue so under consultant care, I have a mass near my ovary which I have an mri to check on it later today. I was having severe pains for the first 14 weeks but midwife fobbed me off, my gp tried to refer me for an early scan but the EPU wouldn't see me either, also had a missed miscarriage previous to this so was worried about that. Also panicking about giving birth as last time it was very traumatic ConfusedSad but I guess I've got this far with my anxiety so I'll get through it x
I don't know what I expected I'm sure there's people with much more than me going on, just feels abit pointless and expected more support I guess x

I've just had my second baby.

Care this time around was pretty shocking to be honest. I appreciate the situation we are in makes things difficult but I have several Dr friends who are baffled as to why maternity care has been so affected.

As for 16 week - they'd have checked urine, BP etc and potentially listened to baby's heartbeat. After 16 week appt I didn't have another one for months!!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/01/2021 12:01

@sarahjsdddd pains in your second pregnancy and subsequent pregnancies are pretty normal. I remember being shocked by it with my second, so I wouldn't worry about that unless it's really bad.
Insomnia is a pain in the arse but again normal. I've honestly slept one night in the last 6 weeks. It's been horrendous, but luckily have been off for 4 of those weeks with no school runs, which makes it so much easier.
I'm also.paniking about giving birth, it's played on my mind since the minute I found out I was pregnant. I'm absolutely dreading it so you're not alone there.
As for your doctor referring you and still not being seen, I wouldn't be happy about that. Noy sure what to advise though sorry.
If you are worried keep phoning them and insist you are taken seriously.
I'm sure all will be fine though.

sarahjsdddd · 16/01/2021 21:51

Can confirm it was abit pointless 🥴 was just a 5 minute call to say bloods were fine that I had about 5 weeks ago lol and book appointment for when I'm 25 weeks, which is in person where I am x
