What can I drink

I got badly dehydrated in my last pregnancy and really want to avoid that this time around but I'm really struggling to get fluids down. I can't really cope with anything fizzy, cordial seems to be to sweet at the moment and water on its own seems bland and just doesn't taste right. I've gone off tea when usually I'd have 3/4 mugs a day. I think I'm looking for a cordial that flavours water but without being sweet but don't know what to try any suggestions?

Sorry no help but following for any ideas!
Ice lollies are sometimes working..
Also gone off tea, sometimes have better luck with room temperature water but it's very hit and miss tbh.

I’ve been similar I’m enjoying fruit juices and sparkling water with cordial which I hated before the pregnancy but now really enjoy. Try a more bitter range of cordial like grapefruit or the barley ranges with robinsons they’re nice also ice lollies seem to work well too 🙂

Alakasam · 10/01/2021 18:36

What about fruit tea? It's not sweet at all but has a bit of flavour.

Thisisbananas3 · 10/01/2021 18:40

I could written this post! Barley squash I’ve been having but I think it tastes horrible but I can’t tolerate orange squash.

Ice lollies and fruit smoothies have helped me, plus having a suck of lemon and then some water. I’ve tried orange juice but I can just taste acid.

I hope you find something you can manage, I’ll follow this thread too as I really relate!

Oh I should have said, lemonade has been my best drink, if you can’t have fizzy maybe try letting it go flat?

dementedpixie · 10/01/2021 18:44

Water down fresh fruit juice?
Still lemonade?

Forest27 · 10/01/2021 18:45

I’m having water with slices of lemon in it. The bitterness seems to really help me!

Cordial is too sweet for me too and I can’t even think about drinking tea or fizzy drinks without feeling queasy 😷

This is a bit of a random question but is it the tea or the milk that don't taste right? I went off coffee but then realised it was low fat dairy that didn't taste right (low fat yoghurt tasted awful). When I put whole milk in instead of semi skimmed I could drink it again. I went off a lot of drinks too but enjoyed ginger beer

ArtfulScreamer · 10/01/2021 19:00

Think I might try getting some lemons or even a jif tomorrow and doing a jug to sit on the side I might have more joy if it's there in front of me saying drink me.

I think it's the tea I never really drink coffee but I've been fine with the odd cup I've had. I do still have the odd cup of tea I just don't really enjoy it like I used to.

What about a cold water infusion? Twinings do lots of different flavours and they just add a fruitiness to the water without being too sweet?

chickenninja · 10/01/2021 19:10

Isn't it funny that a lot of women go off tea when they're pregnant. I was the same through two pregnancies.
Sorry, nothing helpful to add, I just find it interesting.

Elderflower cordial

  • lemon + ginger tea
  • marmite on crispbreads
  • survived on this for weeks
Luckyelephant1 · 10/01/2021 19:14

Coconut water? It's not especially sweet like cordial is.

MsSquiz · 10/01/2021 19:17

I drank a lot of water with fruit in (oranges, strawberries & grapes were the main ones) I also tried the cold water infusions (tetley & twinings do them) and they were good because they were sweet at all.

I would occasionally have sparkling water with lemon or lime, but not too much because of the acidity (gave me heartburn!)

Thisisbananas3 · 10/01/2021 19:23

Oh these water infusions are a great idea!!

@ArtfulScreamer I’d try both, the jif didn’t quite have the same effect as the fresh lemon. Really hope it works for you
