What can you see on a 6 week scan?

Hi everyone!

I’m having an early scan as a precaution due pains in having to rule out ectopic. I’m having no spotting, just pain.

I think I’m at least 6 weeks on Monday, but I can’t be sure as I haven’t had a period since my miscarriage in November.

Does anyone have any experience of a scan this early? What can I expect to see at exactly 6 weeks?

i sow a tiny blob, like smaller than a pea.

I had a scan at 6 weeks and a few days. (IVF pregnancy).

It was an internal scan.

I saw a sac flickering heartbeat and tiny dot of a bean.

Everything will be pretty small - early days so don’t be alarmed if they only see a geatation sac +/- yolk sac and no embryo, or a small embryo with no heart beat - it varies! Hope all goes well and sorry for your previous loss

I’ll attach a photo of my scan, this was 6+1 and that tiny tiny blob (red arrow) is baby. Sonographer ( is that the right word ? 🤣) said she could see a heartbeat but I couldn’t see much at all x

I saw a tadpole with a heartbeat. Internal scan - fell in love instantly

Mainly flickering on mine, I was convinced I had lost the baby after a bleed so that flickering was the best thing in the world

I had one @6 plus 5, a sac, a lil bean shape looking and flickering heartbeat

Thanks everyone! Seems like seeing at heart beat at 6 weeks could’ve possible! I really hope so! I’m panicking so much I think that would really reassure me 🙈

I haven’t had many stabbing pains today so hoping it’s not ectopic. But I also didn’t take my pregnacare on purpose as I’ve read it doesn’t agree with some people and I’m wondering if that’s what could have caused pain due to trapped wind etc 🤔

I had an external only scan at 6 weeks and saw the baby, fetal pole, sac and flickering heartbeat, measuring 6+2. It is normal to see heartbeat at 6 weeks, in fact it's more concerning not to unless you're earlier than you originally thought.

Had a scan at 7 weeks for similar reasons and there was a flicker for a heart beat. They said I was only 5 weeks so I had to go back after two weeks to make sure everything was progressing as it should. The first scan was a little blob and a flicker and the second scan was a longer blob with a flicker. The blob is now nearly 4 Good luck with the scan.

@PurplePansy05 Yes I’d be concerned if there wasn’t a heartbeat. There’s always a chance I’m less than 6 weeks though but unlikely as I had a 3+ on clear blue last Sunday!

Hey, here is my scan at 5 and a half weeks. I had an early scan to rule out ectopic too. Everything was in the right place :)

@MumToBeMaz thanks so much for sharing! Did you have a heartbeat then? I don’t know how I’ll sleep tonight as I’m so nervous 🙈

I definitely saw my son’s heartbeat at six weeks, he just looked like a little prawn with a big beating heart.

Said prawn is now 15, 6ft tall and currently yapping away to his big brother.

@Forest27 No heartbeat then, but I have my follow up tomorrow and she mentioned that we will hopefully be able to hear one then, so fingers crossed!

My doctor said it can be 6-7 weeks before you can see heartbeat -so don’t panic if none seen tomorrow-in a week your little bean could have a heart beat. Best of luck tomorrow 🤞🏼

@Forest27 I'll definitely update you. I'll be 7+1 tomorrow so hoping to see a bigger blob this time.. hahaha.

I forgot to mention when I measured 6+5 my LMP date would have put me @7+5. I knew I ovulated later so that didn’t come as a surprise.

6+1 little dot with embryo in and I could hear the heartbeat!!! I had horrific pains thinking it was ectopic too! My pains lasted till 8 weeks went to the hospital like 5 times couldn't see any issues some peoples body react differently.... don't worry!

Hey everyone thanks for sharing your experiences! My scan when great and I could see a flickering heartbeat. I may have cried... a lot 😂

@Forest27 Great news all round, we had the same. Saw a strong heartbeat too! I cried too, hahah. I think it's allowed.
