Anyone had delayed / postponed scans due to COVID?

Hi Everyone!
I am 10 weeks today and waiting with anticipation for my 12 week scan date letter. It has been a couple of weeks since my booking appointment and my midwife did say the letter could take a while which is fine and obviously expected with current situations. But I am just interested as to whether or not has experienced any delays or postponed scans due to COVID restrictions? xo

I'm 30w. All my scans were on time, and all my midwife appointments have been face to face. I've been really lucky I think as lots in my due date group have had very different experiences. It definitely varies trust to trust.

I’m nearly 24 weeks and am yet to see a midwife, I had my booking in done over the phone, I had to go in for a blood test and then got the results over the phone at 16 weeks a call that lasted all of 2 mins. I did have my 12 and 20 week scans on time but that was just in and out with the sonographer. I am feeling a bit abandoned to be honest I’ve never had a chance to ask any questions.

@PFin I think you’re right, I will try and find out some more on Monday. Like you say it’s only 2 weeks away now and I don’t want to find out too last minute. Ah well congratulations Flowers I bet you are really excited, will this be your first? I have seen baby at just over 8 weeks as I had a bleed around week 7 so that was a great experience seeing the little heartbeat flicker Smile

@NewYearNewOldMe Glad you have had a good experience! I also think a lot of my local trust and honestly just think they are inundated at the moment as usually they are great. Fingers crossed Covid dies down soon and things will get back to normal!

@stretchypants Sorry to hear you haven’t had a great experience so far. It sounds very similar to my friend who is around 25 weeks now, she was supposed to meet her named midwife for the first time on Friday but that has been cancelled now. She did have her booking appointment face to face but it was with a random midwife. She has also not been able to have her partner into the scans etc so has been paying for private ones. She says how alone she feels and it’s just horrible Sad

I know the way post is at the minute too i'd be worried incase i didnt get it or something. No its my 2nd, 5 year old boy and this ones a girl, you? I had a bad bleed and a constant light bleed for a few days with this one and went for a private scan as EPU wouldnt see me did they know why you bled? They where never able to tell me. Glad everything was ok this wait would be terrible if you hadnt of had that scan im sure.

sunshinecitrus1 · 10/01/2021 09:42

@PFin Yeah I know, we don’t seem to be getting half as much as we were at the moment! As long as our bills stay away that’s fine, I just want my 12 week scan letter haha! Ah amazing, one of each Smile This is my first baby. My bleeding was caused by a small blood clot they spotted on the scan. Thankfully that hadn’t affected baby and they said it would clear up itself if I rested. I am so glad I managed to get that early scan as it did give me some reassurance. It’s hard to think it was only 2 weeks ago, I am so ready to see baby again!

My 12 week scan letter took ages to arrive. I thought I would have to ring them I but left it and it eventually came. I then booked my 20 week scan at my 12 week scan so knew when that was straight away. I am consultant led and have had those appointments through right up until may (due in June). They have also requested three extra growth scans and I've had those appointments through already too. Try not to worry about the scan letter it will come. Congratulations on baby Smile

sunshinecitrus1 · 10/01/2021 11:15

@PerfectPinecone Thank you for the reassurance Smile I know a 12 week scan can happen anything between 12-14 weeks as standard anyway and I am 10+3 today so I think I am being a bit impatient. It’s just with the way the hospitals are at the moment, I don’t want them to forget me haha! I’m really glad you have managed to get all of your appointments booked in though, that must be a huge weight lifted off your shoulders. I will hang in there, I am sure it will turn up. Congratulations to you too! SmileFlowers

So, I know this post is a few months old - but I just got my first appt letter in the post and I will be 16 (almost 17 weeks) - I think I also have GP visit at 16 weeks too - is this too late?
Also thinking the second scan is also between 18-20 weeks, so not much time between them - can the appt be moved to an earlier date? Tried to call them there, but they are only open until 4pm, so have to wait til the morning

Any thoughts or advice on this one much appreciated - first time pregnancy so I don't know what is the norm! Thanks

Do you mean for your booking in appt? That is late if you won't be referred for a dating scan until after then. Some of the screening tests for chromosomal abnormalities cannot be done after 14 weeks gestation. What is the GP visit for as maternity care is usually not done via the GP?
