Has anyone not felt contractions?

I’m pregnant with my second. Was just thinking back to having DD (9 years ago) and remembering trying to use the gas and air. The midwife kept telling me I needed to use it as soon as a contraction started but I couldn’t feel it until it peaked which wasn’t enough time for it to work. I was on a monitor and DD dad ended up having to watch the monitor to tell me when a contraction was starting otherwise I just didn’t realise until it was too late.
The midwife ended up acting like I was being stupid and told me I was having pethidine because I clearly wasn’t coping with gas and air. I really didn’t want it then and definitely don’t this time.
Wondering if anyone else didn’t feel it until the end? What pain relief did you use? Was it the same in all labours if you had more than one.
Due in 3 weeks so it’s on my mind a lot at the moment. Thanks

I had a similar experience. When DS1 was born I was on a monitor that told me when the contractions were. I was not feeling them until they were really strong.

With DS2 I rang the hospital once I thought I was in established labour. The midwife who was trying to assess me over the phone said that my contractions were far too short for my body to really be doing anything. Shortly afterwards I turned up at the hospital with a baby's head between my legs.

The positives were that I had a healthy baby with no pain relief.

@Johannessledge good to know I’m not the only one. It’s been really hard trying to find anything about it. Been getting quite a few tightenings at the top today but assume they’re just braxton hicks. Just got me thinking back to not realising when I had contractions. If my stomach wasn’t going hard I wouldn’t realise anything was happening. I got induced with my first after waters breaking and no contractions (although now I wonder whether maybe I hadn’t noticed them) hopefully this time I can go naturally and have an easy birth

That midwife sounds like an arse.

Make sure that your health care provider knows about this experience.

I had similar with all my labours except I don't feel any pain at all and dilate, then my contractions start and come one after the other and in 4 labours I have had the baby within 10-15 minutes so I haven't had any pain relief
