Reduced movements and I can’t get through to MAU

I’m 28 weeks today and I’ve tried everything from an ice cold drink to sugary sweets to get baby moving and virtually nothing. I’ve tried lying still to feel movements whilst waiting for a midwife to answer but I’m becoming increasingly more anxious the longer I wait.

I’ve only been trying for half an hour but I’d given plenty of time prior to try and get baby moving. I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation and I’m usually quite calm but can’t help but worry. I don’t know what the situation is with covid in just turning up to MAU ? I’d rather speak to someone over the phone first.

Any words of reassurance would be appreciated Sad

I would keep trying to get through to them and just go there if they dont answer soon! Im 26 weeks and find when he's having a quiet day he moves for me after I go for a walk and rub some lotion on my bump.
Hope everything is okay xx

Do you have any other numbers to try like the labour ward ? If ur really worry just go and keep trying them on ur way, surely they would want to see you anyway xx

Corilee2806 · 06/01/2021 21:38

If you have still been trying and can’t get through, and have tried any other numbers you have, I would just head down to the assessment unit. They won’t turn you away.

Daisysandviolets · 06/01/2021 21:42

Do you have and other numbers as when I couldn't get through, I was told to call the labour ward as there is always someone there x

I hope you get through OP.

I had this twice with DS, both times after a heavy meal and both times he would not budge even after drinking coke/eating chocolate etc. He woke up at the hospital after a few hours' sleep and as we were being seen. I hope your bab gets moving for you soon.

peepholepringle · 06/01/2021 21:42

If you can't get hold of them just head down there OP. I'm sure they won't mind at all with you not feeling movement.
I hope all works out for you.
If it's any consolation to hear, I had exactly the same twice; at 30 weeks and 34 weeks. I ended up on a monitor both times where they could see a very lazy baby lounging there.

babbi · 06/01/2021 21:44

Head to the unit to get checked to put your mind at rest .
Baby will no doubt kick like crazy as soon as you get there !!
Like sick kids miraculously full of energy as soon as you get them to a doctors surgery

Good luck ... hope everything is ok

My local MAU is closed after 7pm. Try the Labour Ward? That's what we do in our area if the MAU is closed

I managed to get through just after posting this, I had tried everything to get her to move so really did panic when the usual tricks didn’t work throughout the day. I poked, prodded, ate a big milk, drank a cold drink, ate sweets... I was told to go down and obviously baby made a liar out of me and moved as normal on the monitor - huge relief!

Fantastic news OP!!

peepholepringle · 07/01/2021 11:01

Thank goodness!!! Pleased for you OP

So glad all is okay. Where I am we have a labour line you’re meant to call except more than 50% of calls go unanswered and it’s not manned overnight at the moment. I had a baby who stopped moving and needed an Emcs right away so anyone in this boat, keep trying, call the labour ward if you can’t get through and if still no joy then just turn up. Too important to leave it. So glad all is okay though :)

This was me this morning - I was also 28 weeks yesterday! I went in and of course it was all fine on the monitor and when we get home, a great big kick I could see, never mind feel, made me feel very silly.

I really like I've had amazing care from the hospital and midwives though, nothing is too much trouble for them.

When does this anxiety end?? Never, probably...!
