Am I pregnant?

Hi all sorry if this is a stupid post.

A month ago I had to terminate my pregnancy as my baby had Acrania (a NTD - completely incompatible with life). It was a very hard decision to make so please don't judge my decision.

After speaking to the foetal medicine doctor and midwife I was told it would be completely safe for me to fall pregnant again as long as I take a higher dosage of folic acid and they'd monitor me early on in the pregnancy to make sure all is well.

I haven't bled since the termination and me and my partner have been sexually actively and not using any contraception so I know a chance of pregnancy is possible. After speaking to my grievance midwife yesterday she advised I take a pregnancy test as I haven't had a period yet. I took two clear blue tests and both are positive.

Could this be a new pregnancy or leftover HCG? Opinions? Has this happened to anyone else?

Am I pregnant?

Sorry to hear about your last pregnancy

I would say since you haven't had a bleed that this isn't a new pregnancy? How many weeks pregnant were you previously? Hcg halves every 24 hours or so if your hcg was in the 10s of thousands or hundred of thousands it can take a long time to get a negative test

Clearblue digital with weeks for 1-2 weeks threshold is hcg of 10-153

Hi there & thank you.

I was 14 weeks when I delivered him but 13 weeks when the pregnancy stopped so I was quiet early on.

I was thinking the same with the digital test hence why I bought the other clear blue. I suppose it's been a month so I shouldn't be surprised to see a positive without it being an actual pregnancy. Maybe I'll test again in a week or so if I still haven't had my period ☺️

I'm so sorry for your loss, that must have been hard. When you have a termination that technically counts as bleed and you can ovulate after that without having a separate period. It could well be left over HCG but you could also be pregnant. If you test again with a clear blue next week and it's gone up to 3+ then you'll probably know the answer.

Sorry for your loss.
I was only 10 weeks with my miscarriage and I was still getting positives 4 weeks on.
I'd test again in a week and if it's still positive, contact your GP

That's a good idea - I'll try that

Sorry for your loss OP. I had a MMC with surgical management at 13 wks. I bled for a long time but despite this i was still getting positive pregnancy tests four weeks out. It was very cruel.

I agree with repeating the weeks indicator in a week and will keep everything crossed for you but maybe don’t get your hopes up too much. So sorry you are going through this Flowers

Thanks for your wishes. I called the midwife today who will be bringing me in to scan me as they're not sure why I'm still getting a positive. I'm guessing it's leftover HCG so trying to remain level headed!

Sorry, like others my loss was slightly earlier than yours (12 weeks) and I am still getting positive tests 5 weeks after surgery (and we have had zero unprotected sex). Its not possible to tell yet if its leftover hcg or a new pregnancy. Youd be best to test each week - if the lines get stronger, it's new, if they get weaker it's leftover.

Sorry you are in this position

Yeah I think I'm just looking for something to be happy about so reading into things too much.

I'll test again next week and see what happens.

Hey Op, seriously sorry for your loss, I can't imagine... Echoing the other replies, definitely can't be sure if its left over HCG as I've heard of women still having HCG in their system for months after (even in the 1st trimester of loss). What you could do is ask for monitoring of HCG blood test levels. That should tell you if it's coming down or going up. I think that would be more accurate than HPT since each test stick line color isn't an accurate indicator of how much HCG you have.

So sorry for ur loss. As others have said it could be either or. The termination is counted as a bleed. I miscarried myself and did end up pregnant straight away again within that month so it is possible. When will they scan u?

Keep testing with the weeks indicator

Thanks!

Yeah I suppose it's an unreliable test at the minute - will have to have it looked into ASAP or I might just wait another week.
