Ovulation after miscarriage

Hello,

I have been having miscarrying bleeding for the last two days.

Today I just thought I would do an ovulation stick and it came out as high.

How is that possible?

Ovulation calculators online say that I'll be ovulating 7th-12th as my last period before getting pregnant was 29th November.

So confused :(

Thank you xxx

I’m sorry for your loss
I had medical management of a mmc at 12 weeks and ovulated about a week later - I know this because I got pg!
Could be a false result but it might also be possible you are ovulating

TheDaydreamBelievers · 06/01/2021 10:43

Itll likely be a false positive because your hcg is still high. I wouldnt use OPKs until your FRER pregnancy test is negative. I'm 5 weeks after surgery for MMC and this still isnt negative.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 06/01/2021 10:44

(It wont likely take that long for you - my hormones were v high cause the baby didnt die until 11 weeks and the MMC surgery wasnt until 13 weeks+)

Graced05111991 · 06/01/2021 10:49

Thank you, I was 5 weeks so it's classed as an early miscarriage. I'm hoping I'm not ovulating already as obviously we would like to have another try but we can't whilst until bleeding still incase of infection.
Xx

So sorry for your loss.

Hcg causes positive opks. They won't become negative until you get a negative pregnancy test. I had a mmc in 2019 and I ovulated 31 days after my surgical management. I think my cycle was 41/42 days after the mmc.

LittleTiger007 · 06/01/2021 10:51

I agree with @TheDaydreamBelievers. I had a miscarriage in July and the hcg remains high for a while this makes ovulation tests positive. I went on having morning sickness for three weeks after a medical management 😥 not easy.
On the bright side I conceived again six weeks later. (Ie it took six weeks for my hormones to sort themselves out - but they did and at this first ovulation I fell pregnant)
I’m sorry for what you are going through Flowers

LittleTiger007 · 06/01/2021 10:55

As @Chanel05 says your body will probably take a few weeks before ovulation. Pregnancy hormones still in your system will prevent this for a while.

Graced05111991 · 06/01/2021 11:00

@LittleTiger007 Thank you. I've bought lots of cheap sticks online and was hoping to monitor everyday to try and track when I'm ovulating as obviously having worries that I won't ovulate again!

When should I start tracking again? After I've got a negative pregnancy test? But that may take a while. I know it says online if it's a early miscarriage that the levels won't take as long to get back to normal.

I've got a scan on Monday to check I've miscarried.

Xx

@Graced05111991 it should take 3 weeks or less to get a negative hpt. When it was my first cycle, on reflection, I should have just given tracking a miss for that first one as I put so much strain/stress on myself unnecessarily and became obsessive about not missing ovulation. It took me another 8 months to conceive again in reality.

Graced05111991 · 06/01/2021 11:10

And also using the tracking apps, I've heard to put down when the miscarriage bleed starts as day 1 of a period? Is this correct?

@Chanel05 Thank you for the advice xxx

@Graced05111991 your tracking apps will definitely be confused and unhelpful this cycle, particularly as MC bleeding is often much longer than AF.

Your best bet if you want to conceive again immediately is to wait for a negative pregnancy test, then have sex at least every 2nd day. Your hormones will be all over the place- my temps, OPKs etc are all nonsense.

Graced05111991 · 06/01/2021 13:23

@TheDaydreamBelievers Thank you, I was thinking of just trying every other day like you said. Highly doubt it will happen this month but once period comes again Atleast I can track again. Xx

@Graced05111991 best of luck! My medics advised we wait until after a proper AF (it's no problem for most ppl to try again immediately so dont worry about it). So step one for me is a BFN then step 2 is AF thennnnn we can try again!

Graced05111991 · 06/01/2021 14:28

@TheDaydreamBelievers okay will do the same thank you so much. So sorry to hear you're going through this too. I feel so numb and lack of motivation to do anything xx

This is because LH has the same structure as HCG but not vice verse so ovulation test can detect your pregnancy. You can still get pregnant as soon as you ovulate and HCG in your system does not need to drop to 0 first

Ola3055 · 29/01/2021 00:01

Hi Little Tiger hope all is well? I have done research on reputable journals and there is a strong evidence that hcg has nothing to do with ovulation. The increase of progesteron as result of the pregnancy will pause your cycle however not hcg. This is a common myth. I will follow this guidance as I am trying to conceive again after miscarriage. I have found that what has impact on the.lenght of your post miscarriage cycle is how far have you been when you mc’s and whether it happened naturally, by medical abortion or by surgical one. Hope that this helps. Best of luck!

sarika4444 · 23/08/2021 08:31

how far along were you?I was at 14 weeks, managed by D&C and its been 27 days I haven't ovulated yet.i want to TTC,but the opks are just negatives after negatives 🥺
