Twins - terrible nausea

Hi all,

I had an early scan yesterday (due to prior miscarriage), and found out that I'm 6w3d with twins - total shock! I have been suffering with horrendous nausea for the past ten days, for which I was prescribed Cyclizine. This has taken the edge off, but I still feel sick every minute of the day, I can't eat proper meals, and even small movements make me run to the bathroom to retch (I never bring anything up).

Can anyone advise anything which helped them to cope? I'm really struggling, and can't bear the thought of another six weeks of this.

Go back to the GP. There are other medications that can be more effective. Cyclizine is the first one they try.

Congratulations OP! I had similar and could only cope with combining cyclezine with ondansetron. It never got rid of the nausea completely but I was able to function to some extent. It meant I was able to eat and keep my weight up, which is really important.

The only thing that cured it was giving birth...sorry

Please go back to your GP. Crippling nausea like this is horrific that there is help out there.

Thank you both for getting back to me, I've called the doctor and I have an appointment later today. The last time they were reluctant to prescribe anything as I haven't actually thrown up, but I've lost four pounds in a week as I'm barely eating, and the nausea is just so debilitating. Hopefully I can argue my case!

I thought I had nausea but I actually had really bad acid reflux as well so the sick was like constantly sitting at the back of my throat. I got some omeprazole off the gp and it was life changing. Not sure if you can take it with your other medication. You could also try some rennies

Thanks @parsnipsnotsprouts, how did you discover it was acid reflux and not nausea? I think I have some Rennie's, so I'll give that a try. Would try anything at the moment!

@alwaystired01 It was one night when I was propped up in bed and literally felt like I was choking on vomit lurking at the back of my throat and it felt a bit acidic. took a couple of rennie on the off chance and realised I felt better for half an hour or so but I ended up taking loads then so I went to gp and asked for some omeprazol
