12 week scan!

Hi again everyone

I've got my 12 week scan tomorrow (though technically I'll be 13 weeks). I was just wondering what to expect?

It's my first in-person appointment as it's all been over the phone so far. We paid for a private scan just before Christmas, so I'm hopeful all will be fine - just wondering what happens, or if there's any advice you'd give for it?

It will be similar to your private appointment, which I also had before my 12 week scan.
In my opinion the scanner-lady (the correct terminology has escaped me!) was much nicer and she spent much more time going through the parts of the body of the baby that were there to see. She will also do the neck measurement if you are having the combined test, which she will do twice to check, and then will print off your scan photos and give you a sheet to confirm the details of your scan to go in your notes :)

Mine is also tomorrow at 13w 1d! It will be a bit more in depth than your private one. If you’ve consented to the screening then they will check the nuchal size behind the baby’s neck. You will also have the combined blood tests at the same time if you have consented to these.

Exciting ! Good luck. Mines at 2pm. Feel like the morning will drag!

Only advice would be to drink the amount of water they tell you to - it will be easier for the sonographer to get a clear image!

Oh and expect this to be an external scan. Not sure if your private one was internal or external or both - I had external scans from 7 weeks with NHS but the private places often like to get close to the action so to speak...

Oooh how exciting @WalkingMeAway! I'm 13 weeks 1 day tomorrow too (well - according to my app ) and have a mid-July due date... guessing you're same/similar?!

I can't wait... was lovely to see everything on screen when we went for the private scan before Christmas but will be good to get the 'proper' first scan done.

I've also started to have a couple of symptoms now (whereas I'd had none at all pre Xmas) so all feels that bit more real now too. Exciting! Hope yours goes well tomorrow too! Xxx

@discoballs88 yes current EDD 13th, I know that might change tomorrow. I’m hoping not to be put back !

My symptoms have just started to subside which I’m happy about ! I’ve felt really awful.

It all went really well today @WalkingMeAway! My due date is 13 July, all looked good on the scan and I didn't even feel too squeamish when they took four tubes of blood We've started telling more people now so all feeling very real!

Brilliant news @discoballs88. All went well here as well. They put me forward 1 day so now due 12th. We also told the teaming family and friends today so feeling more real!

I’m okay with the blood taking. I just look out the window 🤣
