Midwives not answering

I recently found out that I am pregnant with my first child. I found out into my second trimester due to irregular periods and little sickness and have been trying to contact my midwife to organise an appointment for over a week to no avail... my GP surgery say to keep trying them as they’re the only ones who organise antenatal appointments.. is it normal to be waiting this long for an answer? How can I get ahold of them other than by phone, as they clearly do not want to answer? As this is my first it’s extremely worrying as I just want an appt to check everything is ok. Any advice?

@ellouise29 can you leave a voicemail explaining the urgency of the situation? When I had to refer myself to my local midwives it was just an answering machine, so I left a message with all the relevant info, and then I received a letter with my booking appointment around a week later x

Do you actually self-refer by phone? In most areas you refer yourself to the midwives via online form or email.

They are probably out in the community on appointments. You could also try calling the EPU at the local hospital to request a scan and dating, as presumably you can't actually know yet how many weeks you are.

Are you sure you are already in your second trimester if you have irregular periods and just found out?
I would look on the antenatal page for your local hospital, there was an online form for me to fill in to self refer.
