Cyclogest Pessaries- Anxious about stopping them!

Hi all
I am 16 weeks pregnant today after 3 previous miscarriages. At the start of this pregnancy I was put on 2 x 400mg cyclogest pessaries a day up until 16 weeks ie today when I was told I could stop.
I am both excited to be able to stop them but also so anxious as they feel like a bit of a safety blanket at the moment. Has anyone else used these and did you just hard stop or did you ween off them? I have a few left so I was thinking about just doing 1 a day for a few days.
Does anyone have any advice or experience?

I am also on 2 x 75mg of aspirin a day which I am going to continue to take.

Any advice on the cyclogest would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you x

I had them because I'm an IVF pregnancy. Initially I thought I would be using them until 12 weeks but my clinic then changed their advice and I stopped at 8 weeks. Initially I was worried, but they assured me that all the evidence points to the body having taken over by that stage and supplementation isn't required.

I'm 19 weeks now and all fine.

Yes I had then with both my ICSI pregnancies. I know what you mean but after a day or two you get your head around it and after a few weeks it seems strange that you used to have to insert pessaries twice a day!

Try to focus on other things and look forward one day at a time. Good luck Daffodil

Completely know what you mean - I was worried too. Same as you I was prescribed 2 x 400mg cyclogest daily up to 16 weeks due to recurrent MC and I felt like (irrationally) that was the only thing keeping the PG going! My midwife didn't know anything about it either which didn't help. I did quite a lot of reading at the time and there were people who had weaned off and people who had gone "cold turkey" both seemingly with no ill effects. I had loads left over (they got my last prescription wrong and gave me a month instead of a week) but still decided on a "quick wean" and reduced to 1 a day for 3 days then stopped completely. Nothing happened - no bleeding, no mood swings no twinges or anything alarming. After a week or so I found my tummy settled - a lot less gas etc but no idea if that was just normal PG symptoms changing over time. Everything looked fine at 20 week scan and I'm now 27 weeks and still looking good.

Not taking them anymore is great I have to say - horrid things!

I was also told to stop at 16 weeks (also on 150mg aspirin which I am continuing). I have had three previous miscarriages. I just stopped completely at 16 weeks, no weaning as told by the consultant. Am now 21 weeks and all seems to be going well. Good luck, I know it’s petrifying. I will never not be scared about something happening, but I am now starting to relax a bit more and enjoying it. Have started to tell a few people after the 20wk scan so it feels more real now.

Thank you so much for all your advice. I really appreciate it. It is so comforting to know others are going through exactly the same thing and have the same worries and concerns but that you have all used the cyclogest and come off them with no worries.
Thank you
x
