Admitted with preeclampsia, being induced

It’s not quite how I expected my day to go... I’m sat here now on the antenatal ward, I was admitted earlier with preeclampsia. It’s moderate-severe from the blood and urine tests and the consultant said there’s really only one way to go from here... First pessary is done and I’m here alone (DP can’t come in until I’m in active labour 😔).

Just feeling a bit shell shocked, I’m 37 weeks and wasn’t prepared for induction, had no signs of imminent birth and was quite happy just with my normal birth plan and being pregnant, it’s been totally normal and straightforward all the way until now... anyone got any words of advice or a hand to hold? It’s all got a bit scary and would love some virtual company x

Thank you (again!), you’re all amazing... I’m not nearly as scared as I was, I think I’m just embracing it now although it’s still very surreal the speed it’s all changed at, to things I’m learning as I go.

The monitoring showed baby is still very happy but the reaction I’m having to the first pessary means they won’t give the second one tonight. Things have progressed a little but they’re concerned I might end up hyperstimulated or baby might get distressed if they give another tonight so we’ll see how things have settled in the morning. Medication has brought blood pressure down to something almost acceptable and although I still have a headache it’s just niggling now.

I’ll definitely be asking about a bath in the morning, I was really hoping for a water birth so a bath will be next best 😊 and I’ll read up on epidurals. I’d wanted to avoid it but I know with a drip it might be the better option. At this point I’m happy reconsidering everything so all your advice and experience is so much appreciated ❤️

I’ll try for some sleep, at least I have a quiet room. I’ll update in the morning tho, thank you all again

Hope you've managed some rest overnight. How are you both this morning?

Weenurse · 04/01/2021 07:42

Good luck 💐

How are you doing @Padstar ?

Nia18 · 04/01/2021 12:51

I had my 2nd baby at 30 weeks due to preeclampsia.
It was very scary, but one thing you can take comfort in is that you've reached term which will make a massive difference.

It must be scary being there on your own though, so big hugs.

Sorry for the late update, it’s strange how in spite of having very little to do, the day has somehow disappeared in a blur!

I didn’t really sleep much, was glad when the midwife arrived for the morning trace to start. She had to get the doctor to approve the next pessary but since both baby and I were fine they were happy to go ahead. DP got a slot to come and visit, they were very kind with not rushing him away at the end and a little bonus time has helped us both loads. He’d been so worried, he’d not been allowed to come to the ward yesterday and had to drop my bag at the door.

Next exam showed a little progress but still a way to go. So onto the third pessary now and really hoping this one does something or it’ll be a long wait until we can try another set. I’ll not be able to go home in between either.

Feeling more settled thanks to all your kind words and the lovely midwives, doctors and other ward staff here. It’s no less scary but it does feel more manageable now it’s had time to sink in.

Just worried now about new Covid rules and what that might mean for DP visiting. I’ll be kept in at least 2 days after delivery and I really don’t want him to miss all that time. We’ll find our way like everyone else tho, we’ll have our baby and I’ll get myself well as soon as possible to get us home🤞🏻🙂 it’s such a rubbish time for so many people in so many ways tho

Thanks @ame88, I’ll keep updating as I can. I’m glad to be a day in already now, one day less until meeting baby and a day closer to being home 😊
