Should I be feeling guilty?

I'm looking for some advice really.

I am 6 weeks along and have had a miscarriage a couple of months ago so I am finding myself being quite strict with what I'm eating.
No caffeine, no chocolate, no sweets. Just eating lots of fruit and smoothies and nice healthy dinners, mainly slimming world recipes but not following any diet just trying to be healthy. Also only having diluting juice and water.

I caved in and had a McDonalds yesterday (McChicken sandwich - No drink) and my mum told me I shouldn't be eating processed foods which just made me feel even more guilty...

I'm nearly 30, I don't know why my mum's opinions bother me so much.

Anyway, my question is, how strict do I really need to be?
I cant tell if I'm just being a bit too anxious about what I'm eating/drinking or if I'm doing the normal thing.

Please don't be too hard on yourself.
Of course you need a healthy diet when pregnant but if you want a Chinese or McDonalds every now and then please have it.
There's no way this can harm the baby if 80 percent of the time your eating healthy and the other 20 percent your eating exactly what you want!!!
Moderation is key! Xx

Please don't listen to your mum on this one - she is being ridiculous! Like pp said provided your diet is healthy and nutritious most of the time the occasional takeaway / fast food won't do the baby any harm! Congrats on your pregnancy :)

Please don't feel guilty! Eat what you fancy! Your diet sounds amazing in general, the occasional foray into junk food isn't going to hurt baby or you. Sorry your mother made you feel that way, she won't have meant to (hopefully).

My mother takes me for the occasional McDonald's as a I randomly crave a big mac sometimes, and she has a car but we don't at the moment (3 or 4 times I think and I'm 21 weeks). The rest of the time my diet is wonderful like yours- like you, I don't have a drink with it though, because I think aspartame is in every fizzy drink nowadays and I do not trust that stuff one bit, so if I crave fizzy, soda water with fresh orange juice works a treat.

The miscarriage was not your fault and very unlikely to be a cause of anything you did for a start. You sound like you have a great diet, with my dd I craved mcdonalds mcflurrys so I had them. They didn't do any harm as far as I am aware and I ate healthily 90% of the time so allowed myself treats. You don't need to be super strict on yourself. Take each day as it comes and you will feel much less anxious. I avoid caffeine and fizzy drinks in all my pregnancies and avoid takeaways as they make me feel sick but an occasional treat is not something you should ever feel guilty about, pregnant or not x

There is no need to feel guilty at all! You sound like you've got a great diet and are getting plenty of nutrition. The odd treat/"bad" meal is not going to matter. We're having McDonald's tonight as I can't get the katsu chicken nuggets I've seen advertised out of my head, I'm hoping they're a disappointment so I don't get hooked Grin. 90% of my diet is healthy and my portion sizes haven't ballooned, one meal is not going to make a difference

Oh my goodness eat whatever you can stomach lovely!! Baby will find the nutrients wherever! With my DS all I ate was dairy milk and lucozade for about 4 weeks!!! Well done for eating healthy and I’d say keep that up whilst you can stomach it but please don’t beat yourself up if you just want something beige!!

2020quelhorreur · 04/01/2021 14:39

I have never eaten less healthily than in both my first trimesters. I just needed beige food, and couldn’t stop myself! Normally I eat really quite well! Babies fine!

DollyParton2 · 04/01/2021 14:57

It’s notorious that a LOT of pregnant women crave MaccyDs. I’m veggie and normally eat quite healthily but being pregnant- with my 3rd this time- brings out my cravings for pure greasy beige food stodge! I still have the veggie burger there but loads of fries/ diet cokes. Then back it up with a good supply of vitamins & other better meal. Sorry but shame on your mum- there’s nothing risky about it at all.

To be honest I'm 13 weeks and I can't stop eating fried Chicken. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm also eating fruit and veg but all I can think about is chicken, dont feel guilty, not like you're necking whiskey, tell your mum to calm down

swiftt · 04/01/2021 19:44

There was a week or two in my first trimester where I actually ate nothing but McDonalds. Chicken nuggets were just the only thing I could stomach. You don’t need to feel guilty!

Terracottasaur · 04/01/2021 20:21

You absolutely didn’t cause a miscarriage by eating unhealthily - please don’t think that. Some women have such bad sickness they live off of beige food and sweets for the whole first trimester and it’s totally fine. I basically ate only carbs for weeks!

Your mum is being unhelpful and a bit ridiculous. You’re doing fine Flowers
