BFP, low HCG and bleeding. Advice, positive stories, thoughts??

Desperation had led me to put the question out there to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

I've had 4 BFPs using FRER over the past 4 days including today, with AF due today. The last few days' tests have been faint, but today's was noticeably darker, but still not super dark. A few hours ago, I started bleeding. No clots, but just bright-medium red when wiping (sorry TMI!). I went straight to the doctors and results were quickly returned. My HCG levels are at 12, so very very low. I'm now getting mild period-like cramps and the light bleeding has continued. Has this happened to anyone else?? I'm really hoping my HCG is low due to late implantation, and the bleeding isn't anything to be worried about. I've read that some bleeding in early pregnancy can be quite normal. What are all your thoughts? Am I being too hopeful and optimistic? I'm petrified as I suffered a miscarriage 3 months ago at 5.5 weeks. We have been trying for 16 months now... Advice, positive stories and thoughts all welcome!!

Sorry OP I know how tough this is. I think it’s good to hope for a good outcome but also not to be too optimistic as it’s obviously very early days. Bleeding can happen and does with some pregnancies but it is also often the case a miscarriage so it’s just too early to know. I have had three pregnancies - in my first I had no bleeding at all and my DD was born in 2018. With my second I didn’t have any bleeding initially but a few days after my BFP I started to get some brown blood and then had two weeks of on and off spotting, I was still getting BFPs and my HCG levels were increasing but not very quickly. They told me that as the levels weren’t doubling roughly every 48 hours to expect the worst which is what happened, I miscarried at 7 weeks. Have you got an appointment to go back for another HCG test?
This last pregnancy I didn’t have by early bleeding but got some around 7-8 weeks which turned out to be a haematoma. Am now 21 weeks. So every pregnancy is different.
Sending you hugs x

Thank you so much @Brobbles for your super quick reply and sharing your pregnancy stories. Sorry to hear you've also had a MC. It's so tough. It's know its hard to predict what will happen when everyone's bodies and stories are all so different. I guess I'll just have to wait to see what happens. I've got another HCG test booked for Tuesday. I've got my fingers crossed the bleeding will stop asap and the levels will start to double. Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy and congrats!!

See if you can also test your progesterone. If it is low, this may be the reason for bleeding and early miscarriages, in this case, supplements may help sustain the pregnancy. Hope for a good outcome for you x

@anniebu thanks for your reply!! Ok, I will definitely do that and look into it too. I'll bring it up with my GP when I go next.

I've had all the usual testing done and so has hubby, so we just don't know why it's taking us so long to conceive! We're both very healthy, eat well and exercise. I just want to get to the bottom of it.

Losing hope this time. My cramps are feeling like usual period cramps now and bleeding is not getting any lighter... Sad

Unfortunately I'd be prepared for the worst OP as this sounds like a chemical. If AF is due today then assume you are around 14DPO? Unfortunately a hcg level of 12 whilst is a BFP on a first response would no longer be considered a BFP by doctors/hospital etc. Sorry not the news you wanted to hear but I've had 5 miscarriages and 2 ectopics myself plus an unknown handful of chemicals so I'd rather be honest with you than give you false hope x

Moonchild89 · 03/01/2021 21:19

Thank you @ivfbeenbusy. I think you're right... Pretty sure I've had a chemical. I wonder how common it is. It was the first time I've ever tested early, so now I'm thinking that it might be happening all the time. Is this something I should be really worried about?? Miscarriage and 1 chemical (that I'm aware of) in 3 months, over 16 months of trying... Confused

It's more common because tests are available now that are so sensitive - in most doctors and hospital the threshold to confirm a pregnancy is a hcg of 25 and many places it's 50

At least your GP will have a record of this BFP now so perhaps start enquiring about a referral to a fertility clinic? Most recurrent miscarriage clinics won't see you until You've had 3 consecutive losses and don't always include a chemical with such a low hcg in that number but you may get lucky and have a sympathetic GP who will make the federal x
