Low Lying Placenta

Hello all,

I got told at 20 week scan I had a low lying placenta. I had a couple of bleeds early in pregnancy and a few towards the scan. One since at about 26 weeks. At one of the early visits to triage, they found a polyp and later cervical erosion which can cause bleeding. Cervical erosion treated with silver nitrate. At last bleed at about 26 weeks I had thrush (which cam also cause bleeding) with no symptoms, now treated and no bleeds since. I'm also rhesus negative so lots of anti d.

I'm now 33 weeks and had scan yesterday and my placenta is completely clear of cervix now. We haven't had sec since 20 week scan. Are we safe now?

I had a low lying placenta with my first pregnancy and regular scans to check it - the placenta eventually moved right out of the way Smile I was told no sex and no heavy lifting

Oh sorry safe as in can you have sex? I was told to just be cautious but to be on the safe side we didn't have sex until after dd was born

@dillydallydollydaydream7 ooh even after it had moved? I'm annoyed I didn't ask at scan now!

Yep - when it was low lying they also told me because of it I had to carry my maternity notes around with me everywhere incase it ruptured! We did other things but never full sex - I bet other people have been told a whole host of different things though! Could you maybe ring your midwife next week and see what she says?

OkyDoke · 31/12/2020 22:26

@dillydallydollydaydream7 yes I had to carry notes around too! Still will now im so far along tbh. I think I will ask, I have an appointment soon anyway. Thank you!

I had a low lying placenta (right next to the cervix but not over it) but never had bleeding. I was told to take it easy and not have intercourse. At around 26 weeks it had moved up and when I asked the consultant at 28 weeks she said it was fine to have intercourse again. I'd check with your midwife/ consultant but I don't see why you couldn't.
