Hi all, I know there is countless threads on this as I've been reading them for the last few hours. I had a sweep today at about 4.30. Midwife said my cervix was very favourable and things had started on their own. She said I was around 2cm dilated but this is my second baby so know not to get too excited about this. She said she did a really good stretch and sweep. I had a bit of blood on my pad afterwards and when I've been to the loo a few times and period style pains in lower tummy and back but it seems to be easing off now.

Are the cramps a normal side effect of the sweep or a sign things are going in the right direction?

I'm reaaaaally hoping it's tonight or tomorrow. I am so done with being pregnant!

Would love to hear your sweep stories to compare and how long it can take afterwards! Smile

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Glitterball

I had this at 39+4 and DS was born the following afternoon. Wasn't sure if it was cramps or contractions but they ramped up through the night just as I went to bed.

I didn't have a sweep. It was offered but I said no. Is it normal to bleed after a sweep? The midwife never mentioned bleeding to me.

Hi OP, I had a sweep at 41+2 and my midwife said very similar things to yours. Also had a few cramps throughout the day and then some blood. Cramps ramped up (massively!) about 11pm, just as I went up to bed. Walking around and climbing stairs seemed to accelerate things. DS was born 8 hours later. Fingers crossed for you!

I had a sweep at 40+1 and was 1.5-2cm dilated - first baby

Now 40+4... No sign of baby yet 😭 hope yours works better than mine!

Loulou85x · 01/01/2021 08:16

@tinkertop I was hoping that is what would happen but I'm still here waiting
@lyinginthegutterstaringatstars yes it's normal to bleed, not massively but just a little like a show

@Needausername99 ohhh I am hoping it is today! Going to go for a walk to try and speed it along

@Katbaby oh no, you're still waiting too! Do you feel like anything is happening at all?

I had a sweep at 40+1, second baby, within 6 hours, baby was born. It all happened very quickly. Midwife was great and moved me into a good position once things were progressing. I had gas and air.

Good luck OP!

@Loulou85x no to be honest I've been having on and off pains for the last 2 weeks, accepted that my fate is being induced on Monday!

Feel like otherwise I'd be pregnant forever!!

Hope you have more joy than me though 🤞
