Pregnancy Insomnia

Wandering if anyone else is going through this? I’m nearly 18 weeks. I drift off easily 10.30-11 but at around 2-3am wake to go to the loo and that’s it, I’m wide awake tossing and turning all night. Mind racing. No more sleep. It’s destroying me.

Have 2 other DC so to muster any energy/ enthusiasm for them in day is very hard right now.

I'm the same as you although now 25 weeks I've slept awfully through the whole pregnancy and am looking forward to baby being here for some sleep! Lol

I have it really bad. Middle of night waking can’t get any more shit eye. So depressing

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 31/12/2020 10:34

#shut eye!!! May as well be shit eye though 🤣

Moo678 · 31/12/2020 10:42

Me too. 17 wks today. 4th baby. Never had this bad so early before. I generally sleep badly in 3rd tri - really hoping things settle down for a bit before then.

Heartburn and insomnia here! It's like my body is prepping for the sleepless nights, it's been going on for 4 weeks now, currently 16 weeks!

shelbyrae · 31/12/2020 11:18

Same with me. 8 weeks and I've been getting up every night between 2-4 and can't get back to sleep. Nightmare. 😑

Sorry for all those also suffering, but helps in those lonely, frustrating early hours to know we’re not alone! Feel so wiped out yet again today.
Planning on staying up till midnight wave goodbye to the last year tonight- hoping the later night might help in some way.

I had bad insomnia for 2 years - past year has been much better. I’m just terrified it’s returned.

Me! Similar to you usually fall asleep around 10pm but wake up for the loo around 1am and that’s me for the rest of the night. Some nights I genuinely don’t sleep at all. I’m 17.5 weeks and at my wits end. Google is no help either except from the usual ensure you follow a bedtime routine etc.... I have midwife appt on Wednesday and tempted to ask for something to help but I doubt they’ll be able to give anything.

DollyParton2 · 31/12/2020 12:23

Val2021 I was given Zopiclone sleeping tablets for my last insomnia pre- pregnancy, was so pleased that I was down to 1/4 a pill a night and even cutting bits off that. I’m still on it as to suddenly go cold turkey would be worse for my body/mental health than gradually withdrawing.
I’ve done quite a bit of research and there’s no adverse affects in pregnancy especially the amount I’m taking though of course it’s not recommended. Sadly the 1/4 pill is having zero affect right now, tempted to increase my dose but worried too...
I’m also seeing my midwife on Monday, let’s both report back here so we can share what they said?! X

Ah that sucks that it’s having no effect whatsoever for you at the moment but agree it would wreak havoc on your mental health and body to stop it completely! I have actually been starting to get a bit worried about the total lack of sleep as I did read that it can put you at higher risk of developing PND. Good luck at midwife on Monday and let me know how that goes - I’ll do the same! I’m obviously very sorry you are having such a rubbish time of sleeping too but I have to say it’s good to know we’re not alone in this x

DollyParton2 · 31/12/2020 12:36

Thanks Val2021 x

Yes!!! It’s driving me to drink (if I could!). It’s soooo frustrating. Does anyone have any advice??

LittleTiger007 · 31/12/2020 12:42

Same here! I didn’t expect this so early in my pregnancy. Ever since the beginning of the second trimester I have had a lot of difficulty getting to sleep and staying asleep. It’s not every night. About every fourth night I am so tired that I crash for at least a few hours. It’s very hard to then be productive during the day!

DollyParton2 · 31/12/2020 13:04

It’s just so weird. There must be a reason.
Normally I could get up stumble to loo then as so tired still get back to sleep. It’s so common. There needs to be far more studies/ more help available.
