I am 34 weeks and recently have been having nose bleeds - mainly in the night. I have never had nose bleeds before - anyone else had this?

Hi Janx, I had nosebleeds all the time when pregnant after not really having had them since childhood. I think it's basically where the volume of blood in your body is changing so much and your nose can become a bit of a release valve. Also the lining is much more delicate and sensitive during pg so can bleed at the drop of a hat.

hth !!

yep, I got it with both pregnancies, just one of those annoying side-effects!

hi, I am 40 weeks pregnant (overdue and fed up i might add) but before i fell pregnant i had never had a nose bleed. Since being pregnant i have them weekly sometimes more than one. Apparently it is pretty common due to hormonal changes! Annoying though.

Try not to worry you are not alone.

I had loads when I was a child which diappeared in my teens. They came back both times when I was pregnant. Sure fire early symptom for me. That and the horrendous vomitting

Ooh yes. When I was PG I woke up one night, realised there was some wetness and rushed to the sink... it was coming out like a tap!
Very scary, couldn't stop it... I thought I was going to bleed to death (though in reality a little blood goes a long way and it wasn't nearly that bad really).

Ended up in A&E to have it cauterized and packed.(before which they put in some cocaine as local anaesthetic, only time I've ever had any such substance and it did nowt for me except numb my nozzle and worry me!)

make sure you keep some ice in the freezer, that can help stop the bleed.

If your nose is congested, try to keep it open with something like menthol inhalation rather than blowing a lot.

Im 23+5 and got my first nose bleed lastnight. It was very scary. Just like a running tap! Didnt go to hospital as it eventually stopped after about 30 mins. I came to blowing my nose this morning (sorry if tmi) and blew out huge clots.

Thanks for all your messages - I never had any of these nose bleeds with my last pregnancy so was a bit shocked
