Universal Credit- Child Element Help??

Hi Ladies

I won't be eligible for maternity allowance due to gap in my employment and also starting a new contract in Feb, by which I would be only working a month until I go for maternity leave.

I've been told to apply for universal credit instead and provide MatB1 as proof that I'm pregnant.

Just wanted to know if I do apply, will I be getting the child element after the baby's born or when I've submitted my matb1??

I don't know how it works 🙈 and I've really been contemplating whether or not I should even apply for it.

Tried to call the UC number but as you know with New Years coming up lines are busy.

You get it once the baby is born.

You need to use a babefits calculator first. If you claim maternity allowance this will be deducted from uc. Where as smp wouldn't be. So you may fins you're better of on uc than claiming MA.

Child element is from birth.
