Back labour or just a backache?

So currently lying here awake after a sleepless night due to really severe and constant backache! No position I get in does it ease (sit/stand/lie down/all 4s/etc). Have taken paracetamol and been using a hot water bottle but nothing seems to be easing it and it's kept me up all night! Started about 10pm last night.

Any tips on how to ease or what I can do? I'm no stranger to backaches I have had them a lot throughout pregnancy, but they are normally manageable and eventually go away when I change position or go to sleep! But this one is not letting up.

Could it be back labour? I haven't had any contractions, it's just a constant sharp pain going down my back! I'm 39 +1.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it might be the start of something. Good luck!

Have you tried a bath?

I had this in both my labours (both times baby was back to back) with hardly any pain round the front.
Try and work out if there are any changes in Pain intensity and if there are, any pattern to them.
If you can’t sleep I’d advise keep moving around and use a gym ball if you have one.
Good luck!

Agree with the poster above, my first was back to back and this is how my labour felt at the start. I remember being so uncomfortable but when I mentioned it to my mum, she pointed out I was probably in labour 😬 he arrived a couple of days later. Good luck!
