Has anyone on here ever used an independent midwife?
Im due my 2nd baby around August 2021. I had my DS in 2017, the midwife care during the pregnancy was not great, we had a different midwife at each appointment.
The birth was at a birth centre and the midwife was fabulous but we had asked to be left to it, as we used Hypnobirthing to help with the birth and luckily didn’t need much involvement.
Then the aftercare was again just terrible and not consistent, I had trouble feeding and DS didn’t gain weight well, so we had to make daily trips to a local hospital to have him weighed, which was quite stressful keeping to a set appointment with a newborn.
At around 3 months we went to a private feeding consultant who diagnosed our son with tongue tie, which had not even been checked by all the health professionals we saw.
Anyway before I keep going on and on, this time we have had a look into a independent midwife and I wanted to see if anyone has hired one and what their thoughts were. The ones I have seen provide at home appointments, are there at the birth and post natal for 2 months. My main reason would be to just have consistent care with someone that actually knows me.
If anyone is in the West Yorkshire area and can recommend one?
