Is it normal to be this exhausted

I'm 33 weeks pregnant with my first , & I am absolutely exhausted all the time.
I'm spending 70% of the day either sleeping or lying in bed , that's if I'm not at work

It seems to take me ages to do a simple task such as wash dishes or tidy up & often I have a lie down halfway through the job

I mean , I know I'm growing a human & that process alone will zap my energy but I'm starting to get worried a little bit
I'm already thinking of ringing in sick tomorrow as I believe I'm just going to be too tired to get out of bed

I've tried - a hot bath every night , early nights , massages , no food after 6 , & winding down before bed , I can sleep for 12 hours & still feel exhausted the next morning

Is this normal ?

Not usual, but that does not mean not normal. Everyone is different. First get all things medical ruled out, anaemia etc

It is however quite exhausting to be pregnant and work full time plus do all the household tasks that are inevitably done by the woman

I was like this with my four pregnancies but I was always anaemic. Even with iron tablets I'd still be tired.

@Haggertyjane @Alicenwonderland
I have my 34 week check next week with my midwife , would you suggest mentioning it then or doing it sooner ?

My first guess was that this sounds like anaemia. Defo get pregnancy bloods done if you haven't. Otherwise, it could just be that growing a baby takes it out of you. I was most tired in my first and second trimester - just incredibly uncomfortable in the third! I did have anaemia though, which was sorted out with iron.
Hope you get your mojo back soon.

Ksi91 · 27/12/2020 16:34

@Mimiwish the uncomfortableness is a different story 😂
I'm exhausted & baby decides to kick the hell out of me , I can't even enjoy it cos I'm just so tired

It sounds abit extreme to be honest especially given you aren’t running about after other children so you can chill at home. I would speak with the midwife and check iron levels etc

RandomMess · 27/12/2020 16:36

Yep was like this due to being anaemic, don't bother with iron tablets get floradix or spa tone from Holland and Barrett works much more quickly and doesn't make you constipated.

DoubleHelix79 · 27/12/2020 16:38

I was exactly like that in my first pregnancy, particularly the first and third trimester. I basically just left the sofa to get more chocolate. No anaemia - iron levels were good. This time around (25 weeks now) I'm slightly better, but still get tired very quickly. Hung up a few pictures earlier and am basically done for the day.

Haggertyjane · 27/12/2020 16:43

Next week is fine to ask the MW

theantsgomarchin · 27/12/2020 16:43

I'm 27 weeks pregnant with my second and I admit I could probably take a nap at any time of the day. Sadly I have an 18m old so can only nap during his nap (when DH isn't here). However during the week I do just have to "get on with it" because you don't have a choice with a toddler 🤣

It does sound extreme though. It sounds to me like you're a bit lethargic. DS goes to nursery on Thursdays so I have a day to myself, and if I come home and get back into bed once I've dropped him off then I find myself feeling shattered the entire day. If I keep myself relatively busy then I just feel a normal amount of tired for a pregnant woman!8

peachypetite · 27/12/2020 16:48

Get some spatone.

Onekidnoclue · 27/12/2020 17:18

Bear in mind spatone doesn’t have as much iron as most tablets. It’s only got about a tenth of what I should be taking according to my midwife but that’s why people prefer it! If I have the usual dose I just vomit so there’s no point.
If you’re concerned about anaemia try it but it may well do nothing (except cost a quid a day)!

RandomMess · 27/12/2020 17:41

Floradix has the vitamins and minerals in it that help your body absorb iron which is why it works better than tablets. It isn't simply enough to take iron tablets they can take weeks to work.

I went from napping 2 hours per day with not not needing to anymore after 4 days with all my pregnancies by take floradix.

ragged · 27/12/2020 18:38

I am another one who suspects iron anemia.

Alicenwonderland · 27/12/2020 21:21

Definitely worth mentioning. Xx
