Nub theory - how does it work?

Can someone tell me / explain how the nub theory works?

I'm trying to do mine now but I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly

I've read up about the nub being parallel etc but I still don't get it - sorry for being dumb

The nub is quite a definite line, looks like it's not visible in your photo x
