Another miscarriage? Miscarriage on cyclogest?

Feel totally deflated. Im currently 6 wks 1 day. I am on cyclogest and asprin as ive had 3 previous miscarriages this year - no idea of cause and no plans for them to do tests as im very lucky to have a healthy toddler.

This morning i went for a wee and when i wiped there was a light brown discharge / has happened maybe 3 out of 6 times ive been for a wee today - assuming its going to be another miscarriage. Does anybody have an experience of this on cyclogest? Im wondering if the cyclogest is maybe slowing the impending bleed?

Or has anybody had light brown discharge and everything been ok?

Feel like i just cant take anymore.

Sorry no experience of miscarriage but take progesterone for incompetent cervix, i know a lot of lady's can get weird discharge if they take them vaginally as they can irritate the cervix so can cause spotting, I take them rectally to stop that happing x

Hi. I had three previous miscarriages in a row so was prescribed cyclogest, which I took for my next two pregnancies. Both of my subsequent pregnancies were successful and I now have two beautiful daughters. However, during my two successful pregnancies I still continued to bleed (some bright red blood) but also frequent brown discharge. This continued up to week 19 in my first pregnancy and pretty much throughout my second pregnancy! I know how hard it is and how worried you must feel, but there’s still hope that everything may turn out ok. Have you been for an early scan? With both my successful pregnancies had an early scan at around 7 weeks and seeing the heartbeat was very reassuring, even though I continued to bleed. More than happy to answer any questions you may have 😊 Wishing you the very best x

I did this too. The doctor was quite clear that they could cause discharge due to irritation, also I just found it a lot less messy!

Lots of brown, pink and even black discharge when i used progesterone suppositories. It is very common. Hope all goes well.

SleepDeprived2018 · 26/12/2020 15:01

Thank you all so much - i was trying not to be hopeful thinking it would somehow make me less heartbroken but i think i would be either way!

I am taking the cyclogest rectally so would this still be a reason for the brown discharge? @boymum88

I have an early scan booked for when i will be 7 weeks 5 days at the hospital - feels so long away!! @Cati482 so lovely to hear of your happy ending with two DDs!

How did you take them @Livingmagicallyagain?

Thank you all for replying xx

I took mine rectally and still had bleeding and discharge. The way my doctor explained it to me was that the extra hormones can make your cervix extra ‘friable’ so much more likely to bleed, even from everyday activities. X

Livingmagicallyagain · 26/12/2020 16:17

Mine were vaginally only. I coped till the recommend 12/14 weeks (in my case), and it was worth it.

PutOnAHappyFace · 26/12/2020 16:53

So sorry your going through this OP. I. 10wk3 and also on progesterone for previous miscarriages. This pregnancy I've had brown spotting at 6 and 8 weeks. Scans at 7 and 9 weeks have showed a perfect baby.

I know it's hard but your not out yet.

SleepDeprived2018 · 29/12/2020 19:47

@PutOnAHappyFace how are you feeling now?
Thank you for your message! Epu opened today and i couldnt get through for hours when i did they said it didnt go on for over 24 hours so wait untill the scan that is already arranged for next week. Feel like im in limbo just waiting x

I know the feeling of dread but it really is super common to spot brown, even better if it doesn't last.

I've not had anymore spotting and still feeling super pregnant, just waiting for my 12 week scan appointment. How are you feeling? What do you think of the suppositories? I'm so fed up of them.

SleepDeprived2018 · 29/12/2020 22:27

Thanks @PutOnAHappyFace for the reassurance x

What have your symptoms been?
Mine have got super intense the last few days - sooo nauseous all day so tired!

Me too! Ive been so bloated since taking them have you had that? Like uncomfortably so! X

I had brown/pink spotting up to 20 weeks on Cyclogest and aspirin.

It was a cervical ectropion and apparently aggravated by the drugs.

Baby was fine but my nerves were NOT. I’d had three previous mc.

PutOnAHappyFace · 29/12/2020 22:40

Super sick, been prescribed 2 different types of anti sickness but nothing seems to work. I see a consultant in recurrent miscarriage clinic and she said the sickness this awful is reassuring but it's just not nice. TMI but I hate the constant discharge from the progesterone, I also feel like sometimes they give me little cramps but if they are working, I shouldn't moan.

Who's your scan with? I feel like I have a scan, leave the hospital and instantly start worrying again. It's never ending and the spotting didn't help. Hopefully your symptoms are a good sign to.

kwastell · 30/12/2020 00:33

Another person here who's been on cyclogest for previous miscarriages and had spotting. Had it at 6 weeks, 9 weeks and on/off around 16/17 weeks. I was taking them rectally too. I'd previously had cervical ectropion so could have been linked to that as another poster said. Pregnancy is now 26 weeks along and all looking good.

Hope you get a good outcome @SleepDeprived2018 ✨ The waiting and limbo is horrible.

SleepDeprived2018 · 30/12/2020 21:54

Thanks for replying @LividLover and @kwastell
I feel so silly but i never thought about it until this thread but actually- when i went for my first smear 2 years ago she told me i had a cervical ectropian - i didnt even know what it was untill the nurse said!

Feel maybe there is a bit of hope then maybe!

@PutOnAHappyFace oh no! Are you finding the anti sickness helps at all?
I was really sick with my DD and it stopped at 17 weeks - my sister in law is currently pregnant she was put on anti sickness too but has stopped taking them now at 20 weeks and she is feeling really well

My scan next weds is in the early pregnancy unit at the hospital- not sure if its with my consultant or not - the thought of even going in that scan room after last time makes my stomach turn x

I understand that feeling. Apparently it’s called “scanxiety”. I have flashbacks to the air vent unit above one scan bed. I wish you all the best, truly.

SleepDeprived2018 · 30/12/2020 22:12

Oh my god @LividLover that is exactly the image i cant get out of my head - as soon as i knew something was wrong i sort of fixated on that vent.

Was just about to fill you in on my experience I’ve had the same bleeding and brown discharge... most importantly CONGRATULATIONS I know what a relief a scan all being well brings. So happy for you!

Shamoo · 06/01/2021 22:46

kwastell · 08/01/2021 20:40

AlondraG · 08/01/2021 20:53

So I Intercourse the 24 of December and I’m suppose to get my period in the middle of the week but yesterday I was at work I had a back pain and started bleeding ,haven’t token a pregnancy test because I’m scared of what I can find out

Acull93 · 07/05/2021 17:44

Sorry to jump on! I've just started suppositories also and have very light brown spotting. To the people this happened to did you continue to take them vaginally or switch to rectally? After 2 miscarriages i really dont want to take any chances!
