Getting pregnant after a termination

We got pregnant a while ago but we were advised to have a termination because of medical issues.

We’re now in a position (medically anyway) to start TTC in 2021.

I’m going to be starting pregnacare in the next couple of months but I just wondered if anyone has conceived after a termination? I’m sure there are and the nurses said it doesn’t affect contraception but I’m a worrier!

It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do and I’m so scared it’ll affect my fertility now. I was on the pill when we got pregnant the last time so I’m hoping we’re ‘fertile’ enough again but there’s a nagging in my mind saying because of the termination it won’t happen. Sad

Hi @Me2021

Firstly I'm so sorry for what you've endured. It's a pain I know too well..

I went through this exact experience in May this year but I'm pleased to tell you I'm now currently 20 weeks pregnant. I honestly didn't expect to fall pregnant so soon after my first loss but it's the greatest gift this year has given us.

Please try not to worry, I was told that I wouldn't have any problem TTC again & that was exactly the case, which I'm so grateful for... But it may not happen straight away (after all, falling pregnant even at your healthiest is pretty much a miracle given what it takes to conceive!), so just be kind to yourself and don't lose faith.

Wishing you all the best for the future ♥️

Thanks for your reply @Bellaashley

I’m so sorry you had to go through it as well. I still get emotional now about it but I’m much better.

Congratulations on being pregnant again! That’s so exciting Grin

I’m hoping we won’t have any problems - especially getting pregnant when on contraception so I hope it’ll be ok.

We’re hoping to start trying soon but I (being slightly selfish) want to wait until we know a bit more about Covid as I’m very high risk and don’t want to risk hospitals much if I can avoid them! Hopefully it’ll resolve quickly with the vaccines and we can start TTC 🤞🏼

Best of luck to you - enjoy your pregnancy 💕

I'm pregnant too (7 weeks) after a TFMR in July at 20 weeks. We started trying again once I'd had my first period and were lucky enough to conceive on our 3rd cycle. It's still early days, and I'm terrified of miscarriage or a repeat of the condition that my poor baby girl had, but I'm just taking it one day at a time. We were told we could try again as soon as we felt physically and emotionally ready to.

Good luck when you start TTC again, it may not happen straight away, but it's unlikely to be anything to do with the TFMR as there is only a 25% chance of falling pregnant each cycle anyway - so just keep that in mind.

Congratulations @RunnerGirl123 on your pregnancy!

I’m so sorry to hear about your baby girl though Sad Little milestones will help I’m sure. Are you having an early scan?

Our termination was at 5 weeks due to medication I used to be on being unsafe for pregnancy for both myself and baby but I’m off it now.

I’m just so scared that was a ‘lucky’ pregnancy and it won’t happen again. I’m not a healthy weight at all and have a few medical conditions too.

I’m hoping by taking pregnacare and using OPK it’ll help better our chances as well.

I wish you all the best for your pregnancy! I’ll keep an eye out on the threads for your posts 💕
