Waxing before giving birth

I do a brazilian wax regularly and am quite use to it. I do it myself. It’s a personal preference.

Will it be ok to wax towards the end of pregnancy around 39 weeks? Or is it best to avoid it?

I had a good laugh post birth at my shave job last time 🤣 will definitely get a wax this time. I was advised not to shave or wax after 37 weeks due infection risks.

BlairCorneliaWaldorf · 27/12/2020 20:36

Definitely get a wax right before due date. It might be months before you get another opportunity.

BlairCorneliaWaldorf · 27/12/2020 20:37

And it’s better to be fuzz free for post birth bleeding in my experience.

OverTheRubicon · 27/12/2020 20:39

They used to shave women before birth and stopped because of evidence that the invisible nicks etc increased infection risk, that's why I'd be cautious.

It's your body and if you prefer it, you do you. But if it's due to any concern about what the medical staff will think or even notice, please be reassured that they definitely won't be paying it any attention.

I got a wax while in labour, on my way to hospital. It was totally fine.

PotteringAlong · 27/12/2020 20:42

I was specifically told not to by my midwife because the tiny abrasions left lead to an increased infection risk.

Napqueen1234 · 27/12/2020 20:42

It’s safe but just be mindful the baby could come when all is super smooth but if it’s late you could be in that stubbly regrowth period. That + stitches + sore vag + bleeding might not be ideal!

soughsigh · 27/12/2020 21:14

I had a Hollywood while pregnant, my last at 36 weeks or so. I wouldn't have fancied getting it later, I went into labour at 39 weeks and was through the annoying regrowth phase. I couldn't cope with itchy bits on top of everything else.

PFin · 28/12/2020 00:53

Do want you feel comfortable with. I shaved close to time just and kept it neat and tidy up until i went into labour. I couldnt think of anything worse than an out grown bush after labour with bleeding and trying to keep things clean down there. It is considered safe during pregnancy but i know some are advised to leave it due to higher chance of infection but oh god I couldnt!

This is what you are worried about when you are about to give birth?

I suppose it's something OP has some semblance of control over, so easier to focus on that than worry about what cannot be controlled.

Yep, it’s part of my normal grooming routine so wanted to see if it was safe to do around this time.
