VBAC for big baby - success?

Hi there,
I’m currently 36+3 with my second child and hoping for a VBAC. I had a very straight forward pregnancy and labour with my first though long resulted in an unplanned section due to her being back to back and them unhappy about how much her head had been pressed into a conical shape and slow progress. In hindsight I feel I could have waited a little longer as I was already 9cm. But nevertheless a positive experience.
This time I would like to try for a VBAC and am keen to keep upright and as mobile as poss as I wonder if the last few hours of labour on the epidural affected my daughter’s position.
The hospital is annoyingly pro c sections though my consultant is happy for me to go for a VBAC his only worry is now the baby is measuring up quite large (looking around 9lb at 40weeks - big head!). I’m still pretty set on a VBAC and don’t like the idea of a planned section.
Any advice or success stories would be so appreciated? Many thanks

OP there is a large study of VBACs vs planned C sections after previous C sections that was published last year. It found that outcomes for both were good although planned C sections were slightly safer for mother and baby because there is around a 30% chance of an attempted VBAC ending up in an emergency C section (which is riskier than a planned C section).

I’m in a similar situation and am going for a planned C section - the recovery time and potential for complications in future births are not an issue for me as I don’t want any more children and I will have enough support to cope with the recovery. It’s really entirely up to you- the outlook is good whatever you choose.
