What causes a chemical pregnancy..?

So yesterday and the day prior, I was getting faint but clear positives on a range of pregnancy tests.
I was SO excited. Absolutely over the moon!

My DP and I have been TTC for 4 months now. Two months ago, I had a chemical pregnancy although The 'faint positive' I got before I bled was EXTREMELY faint. A real squinter.

Today, I took a FRER using FMU and there was no line. Took a different test a few hours later and there was a squinter again. Fast forward to now and I'm bleeding.

What causes this! I've had two in 4 months now. I don't know how much more I can take. ☹️😔

I feel like my body is failing me.

The bleed is light pink currently, has been for around 5-6 hours. Usually I bleed heavily. I don't know what's going on.

I’m sorry. I’ve had two.

It can be anything. Probably an abnormal embryo (this is very common and doesn’t mean you’re broken, honest) or failure to fully implant.

If it helps, my perfect boy came after a chemical and I’m hoping I’ll get pregnant again quickly after the one I’ve just had. Good luck.

I don't think there's an exact cause for a chemical pregnancy or miscarriage in general, your body isn't failing you, it's actually doing the opposite. It's doing its job to "get rid" of a none viable egg which I know is shit and it feels terrible, I'm sorry you've had to suffer two within the last few months - when I had a chemical pregnancy my bleed was really heavy so are you sure it's a chemical pregnancy or could it be spotting? Could be worth seeing a GP about it, again I'm sorry if it is Thanks

Of course, you should test again in a few days as bleeding that’s odd doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not pregnant any more, unless your lines have faded/gone.

On this exact day six years ago I had a squinter and then bled. Had read loads about chemicals and then I seemed to have a very heavy period that went on for over a week. As it was Christmas I saw it as a blessing in disguise and got on the mulled wine. Imagine my surprise a month later then when not only did my period not arrive but something else caused me to have to go and have a scan and there was a baby in there that had clung on through this apparently heavy period!

She’s five now- so your “chemical”, especially with just a bit of spotting, may actually be a baby! Good luck.

@LividLover thank you, and I'm so sorry you've experienced the same.
I just feel so raw with emotion right now. I've got so much swimming through my mind.

The grief (although I only knew for a few days) is so real.

@Worriedandabitscared thank you for your kind words.
Like you say, at the time it's happening you just feel horrendous. I feel like my body has failed me.
I should really look at it as a natural process like you say.. removing a non viable pregnancy. But it's so hard.

Usually my AF is dark red and heavy within a matter of hours but that isn't the case right now. I've had some light cramping though and the blood has turned from pink to light red.

I know it. Take time. Look after yourself and do what feels right. It’s okay to grieve.

@LassFromLeedsWithALustForLife what a gorgeous story! Thank you for sharing that ❤️ it gives me a little glimmer of hope. That would be a dream come true for me. X

They're hard to deal with. I had one in September after, yet another, gruelling round of IVF. Big hugs xx

Hi all,

Sorry OP for what you’re going through it’s hard! I’ve had a similar experience happening now. Multiple faint positive tests, and not even squinted on IC and then I’ve spotted pink yesterday but I’ve work up and it’s more ready/brown and feels like more than yesterday! I think it’s my period which would make this a chemical. It’s nice to hear your success stories, I’m hoping that’s true for me too! ive been TTC for around 8 months now and I’m starting to feel like a failure! Xx

I feel this a lot @printedlace, it’s so difficult even when it’s only been a few days/weeks. How does our body let us fall in love with something so quickly and take it away again

printedlace · 23/12/2020 10:51

@Ginger1982 sorry that you have been through the same. The grief you feel, even though the pregnancy is short lived; is so real. It's heart breaking. X
