Calculating Mat Pay

Hey,

I’m currently off work sick and do not get any sick pay. Hopefully aiming to return soon but I don’t not want to rush back and make myself or the baby unwell again. However, I’m worried about when they will calculate my mat pay from. I can’t afford to be off on nothing!

I’ve looked on the gov website and it appear to be approx from week 16 to week 25. Is this correct?

Thank you

Yes that's about right. Your initial maternity pay (assuming you're SMP only) is based on 90% of the average of the 8 week period, but that's only for the first 6 weeks anyway. I wouldn't rush back and risk making yourself worse and being off for longer later. I hope you feel better soon!

@Thirdlifecrisis thank you. My mathematical ability seems to be getting worse and worse! I’ve got a few weeks to go until then so hopefully things will be better. Gives me something to aim for too.
