Measuring smaller

Hey everyone just looking for some advice.

Just been to the midwife as I had a scan last week to see how the baby was growing as I was measuring to big. Now turn out Olin measuring to small for my height and weight and now have to go back for another scan in two weeks. I'm currently 31 weeks was wondering if anyone has any advice or has been through the same. She telling me if I don't feel the movements I need to go to hospital and if weight hasn't changed I need to go to the maternity day care after the scan? Any advice would be much appreciated

Many thanks xx

I get almost fortnightly growth scans as one of my twins has measured small since about 16 weeks (less than 2.5 percentile) . As long as they grow consistently and the blood supply through the cord/to the placenta stays healthy it tends to be more of monitor and see. I have anterior placentas so sometimes movements aren't always consistent. They'll only get the twins out of the growth suddenly stops or slows or the blood supply changes. Having so many scans is very reassuring though

Thankyou for your reply. Yeah they are reassuring but because I suffer with anxiety everything seems worse lol. My first child was fine all the way through. Obviously I know every pregnancy different. But worries me that she is reading on the 3rd centile line but the scan said she was growing perfectly for 30 weeks. So I'm now confused lol xx

Currently 35+6 and up until last week baby was measuring just under the10th centile by growth scans. Went for last growth scan last week and surprisingly she's now just under the 50th which was a relief. This is my first pregnancy with an anterior placenta and not sure if that had anything to do with growth or not but haven't had a problem with it just I didn't feel movements until 23-24 weeks. Fingers crossed baby has had a growth spurt for you x

charlou89 · 21/12/2020 19:08

@kim160790 thankyou for the reply. Did they say why your little one was under the 10th centile. Did you have to have regular checks? Xx

I measured 33 weeks at 38 and it was panic stations. She was too small, I needed to come in to be induced blah blah. She came the next day a very healthy 6lb 5oz.

kim160790 · 21/12/2020 19:21

X2 CTGS weekly for 4 weeks and growth scans although I was having them anyway for gestational diabetes. They thought it was down to my placenta not functioning properly and sometimes anterior placentas don't attach properly?? Xx

charlou89 · 21/12/2020 19:51

@kim160790 all she said to me was my placenta was working perfectly and blood flow was really good. Just she measuring small. And have to go for a scan in two weeks. Xx

@kim160790 so was your placenta ok??

@Butterbeeeen congratulations on the birth I'm glad everything went ok. Was that the only time u measured smaller? Xx

Measured small from 28 weeks
3 scans said tiny 4-5lb baby

DS was 8lb3oz

Not tiny

Metallicalover · 21/12/2020 20:36

I had a growth scan at 30 weeks and baby was under the 10th centile. I then had to go for weekly scans to check my placenta and growth scan alternate weeks.
The scans showed she was growing but it started to tail off. All scans of the placenta were fine.
Because of this they said she was better out than in and brought us in for induction when I was 37 weeks. She was born weighing 5lb 7oz at 37+6 and she now follows the 50th centile xx

charlou89 · 21/12/2020 20:56

@Metallicalover thankyou for your reply. So glad everything was ok for you. Did u have to stay in hospital? Was the birth ok? Xx

@charlou89 do you mean stay in hospital pre or post birth?
My induction was a bit long, I went in on the Tuesday and didn't give birth until the Thursday and we were home within 24hours post birth. When I was in active labour it was ok! I deal with pain when moving so just sat on the ball the whole time. Couldn't have a water birth as they wanted to monitor the whole time and didn't have waterproof/wireless monitors! But they still helped me move around and get into which positions I was more comfortable!
They said it must have been my placenta causing some problems but it looked ok when they inspected it and on scans prior!
They kept going on and on about having a very low threshold re babies movements that used to get me worked up! She moved fine!
Some babies are smaller than others and also sometimes growth scans are way off! Xx

I guess the measurements are not always accurate. All the way I was measured and baby was looking on the bigger side, but now on my last trimester I was sent to have a growth scan as according to measurements the baby would be on the bigger side so there more complications during natural birth. I was a bit worried then, but growth scan showed that baby is not too big at all.
My advice, the less you worry the better for your and your baby’s wellbeing. Stay positive. All the best X

Butterbeeeen · 22/12/2020 07:38

Sorry OP should have pointed out she is now 10 Xmas Grin . Id measured a little bit small throughout but nothing to worry about until then and then it was panic stations as she was allegedly so tiny and not growing.

shelbyrae · 22/12/2020 07:42

AFAIK growth scans are not very accurate...I was told I mine wasn't growing and he ended up on the border of 7lbs, 9 days early. My mum was told I wasn't growing and would only be 4 lbs and I was 6 lbs 13. GL x

Blissfulignorance · 22/12/2020 07:53

I kept having small measurements with the midwife then would go for scan and be told all was fine this repeated loads until 38 weeks when the scan said baby was going to be huge. Induced at term as a result. Baby was 7lb9.
Dont worry too much I'd blood flow and movements are good.

Consultant after birth said I had good abs that's why my bump measured small.... think he was looking at the wrong notes

Hobbitsy · 22/12/2020 08:15

Please don't worry!! Growth scans are about 20% effective. I was induced because of my "small' baby and she was a perfect 8lbs 2oz. You can ask for a scan of the blood flow between the baby and the placenta and as long as it's still doing its job ok you're absolutely fine (I'm pregnant with my second and have been talking to doulas about how to avoid it happening s second time!!)

kim160790 · 22/12/2020 18:59

Placenta should be fine but will see when she's here next week if there was anything wrong xxx

charlou89 · 22/12/2020 19:10

Thankyou all for your messages. Midwife told me today if she hasn't grown much by next scan may have to be induced early. I'm just worried if she not growing or small is there going to be something wrong with baby. The @Hobbitsy blood flow through placenta is good I got that report back the other day and she has been moving loads. Just they scared me cause at the scan I was told everything was ok and she was growing perfect and now midwife is saying on my growth chart she growing to small so now I'm panicking xx
