I'm nearly 36 weeks and since about middle of last week I have become more and more itchy, first started one evening and then was better in day but every evening since has been terrible and tonight is definitely the worse 🤦‍♀️

Will be ringing midwife in AM but anyone else have all over itching? Was it Obstetric cholestasis? What did they do in regards of baby being born?

I had horrendous itching it drove me nuts from about 25 weeks onwards with both my boys.
The first time the doc gave me antihistamines and they helped, she said it was something to do with being allergic to male hormones while he was developing.
The second time I had a liver function test and it was clear and the midwife wasn't interested so just left it. It was my legs that itched the most.

I had this and it turned out to be cholostasis, I was abit further along I think I was 39 weeks. I had a sweep on the Sunday and then by Tuesday I went back for more bloods to check if the levels has risen which they had but that morning I'd already started going into labour, they gave me another sweep to speed things up xx

@3rdtimemomma was your itching all over? And did it just randomly start? Its so annoying!

It was all over but mostly my belly!
It came on quite quick! I went to bed one night and absolutely could not sleep! Itching all night and I just knew it was one of the things they say to look out for! I contacted the hospital not a midwife and they told me to go straight in x

@3rdtimemomma think I'll contact midwife in morning but probably expect to be sent to my maternity triage for the blood results!

Yeha definitely get it checked @EllieJai44
I'm sure I waited round in the hosp for the results aswel on the same day! I think they will re check after 48 hours if I remember rightly to see if they are rising x

I had oc, started itching at 36 weeks. I had a blood test and was induced a few days later. My belly, feet and hands were itchy. I had itchy hands throughout my pregnancy but they wouldnt test blood as it's apparently not a symptom of oc!

EllieJai44 · 21/12/2020 03:54

@spaceghetto oh they can induce early then? Were you purely induced because the OC?

I'm having an ELCS on Monday when I'll be 36+1 due to me having ICP and my levels are constantly rising. Definitely get your bloods done and they should be repeated regularly. The ICP support group on Facebook has loads of information and really helpful advice from the moderators who work in research of the condition.
Good luck - the itch is awful, so you have my sympathy!

I had horrendous itching and my liver function was up at about 36 weeks, took me in overnight for monitoring, let me out but was induced the following week as I also had bad pre eclampsia and I guess the liver added to that to make them do it. My hands were most itchy and my feet. I had a pup rash too which confused things a bit until the bloods came back. I didn’t need medication like some ladies do and all went back to normal over time after baby was born!

I had this, was tested for OC and it came back clear. I think it was just pregnancy hormones.
Low iron can also make you itchy.
